I’m seeing recurrent miscarriage clinic before I start IVF and I am being tested for NK cell but the consultant also advised doing the sperm DNA fragmentation test, just not sure if worth doing as if result come back low the treatment is supplement which my husband is already taking, has anyone done this test ? Or think is work doing ? Thanks

I 100% recommend having your partner do this test. If his results come back high you’ll want to look into the cause (infection, varicocele, etc) as the cause can sometimes be easily treated and improving sperm fragmentation can make a huge difference. After 3 early miscarriages and almost 5 years of ttc (including 3 ivf rounds), we conceived naturally after finding and fixing my husband’s high DNA frag. xx

Thank you I am being investigated for NK cell and the clinic didn’t really recommend until we talked about my husband drinkin, he had stopped alcohol so I think I will wait until my results are back and then he will probably do this test later on as everything has worked out very expensive.

Hi Khram, They may have a different treatment for it or something else to help with this besides the supplement? I would just go with it tbh.

We recently did it, well my partner. Our clinic wasn’t too fussed if we did it, they didn’t recommend it, we insisted as felt we needed/wanted to know. They kinda said whatever the result, they always find the best ‘swimmers’ as we do ICSI. My partner’s result was 30%, 1% outside the ‘normal’ range and he was worried about it but our consultant said that it was basically a normal result and nothing to worry about. My partner was already doing the recommendations, so they was nothing more to do really. Apparently, stress can be a big factor, sometimes difficult to manage, particularly through IVF :-/ In hindsight, we didn’t need to do it but I guess it made us feel like we were doing everything we can. Best of luck whatever you decide xx

Hi KHRAM. So sorry to hear all this. Have you had any counselling along the way. If not so try it. Hope you soon feel more positive. Diane

We didn't do the test but used MACS to help select the best quality sperm. We did treatment in Czech Republic and it cost around €500. I think the test would have cost about the same amount.

I had 6 recurrent miscarriages and they kept saying it was my body causing the issue. Turns out my husband's Sperm DNA Fragmentation was so bad that it was impossible to conceive a viable embryo. He was at 39%. He went on doxycycline for a month and afterward tested his Fragmentation again and it was 10%! So worth the test.
