I was hospitalised with mild OHSS 2 weeks ago right after egg retrieval. The abdominal pain has gone down, but i seem to be gaining a lot of weight. I am gaining a kilo every 2 days! Does anyone have experience of OHSS they can share. I also still have the shortness of breath on walking and swollen hands and feet. Any idea what i can do?

OHSS
Call the clinic or hospital back and tell them that you are gaining the weight now. It is likely that you are accumulating liquid and this can mess up the electrolytes in your blood and possibly needs to be monitored.
Hi DrNS. I would think that you are still continuing to fill your follicles full of fluid. Make sure you drink plenty of fluid and keep an eye on your urine output. You need plenty of pale urine. If you become breathless pop to A & E to be checked out. Good luck! Diane
As someone who is still recovering from OHSS, I would advise you to go to the A&E immediately.
What started like a mild OHSS turned into a severe case by the time I got admitted. I was in the hospital for a week and on several occasions I had to be put on oxygen due to shortness of breath.
The nurses made sure I had compression socks all day so I didn’t suffer any swelling. I was monitored every hour and blood work done everyday until my veins collapsed and it became difficult to draw blood. Also, I was placed on IV fluid as I was quite dehydrated despite drinking lots of water ( there’s only so much water you can handle when you’re extremely bloated). I had a catheter inserted as the consultant wanted my urine measured coupled with my inability to walk.
At the end, the fluid from my stomach had to be drained to help relieve the pain. It was a truly terrifying experience and I’m forever grateful that I made it. I’m not trying to scare you but share my personal experience. Please call your clinic and get help immediately.
