I just did my egg collection on Saturday and was wandering if anyone else had a super bloated tummy? I feel generally okay (with the exception of the huge tummy & bloating). I am not sure if it is OHSS but my tummy looks like I'm pregnant. Everything I wear now is elasticated.
Is this normal? Any advise?
Thank you.

This is my 2nd cycle and we got 5 eggs of which all fertilised. We are planning to do a day 3 transfer. Yes I am on progesterone (cyclogest) suppositories. My oesterogen levels don’t indicate a high risk of OHSS. I am not sure if everyone is bloated throughout this process and accept this as normal or it is just me and a few others or is it due to the progesterone. I am having bloating and tummy cramp due to wind type of pain.
No a particularly glamorous topic but could it be constipation? I was tender but then the drugs can make you constipated and that made me feel even more bloated and tender (I was relieved once I realised it was this!)
Lol yup definitely not a glamorous topic but yes Cyclogest does cause constipation and I am having constipation and tummy cramps. Could also be OHSS, not sure how to distinguish but will be seeing the Dr in a short while.
Hi! I did my egg collection yesterday and actually found the whole experience so awful which I wasn't expecting at all. Also been very bloated and they've told me I'm at high risk of OHSS so quite worried. Agree with the above post about it potentially being constipation. Can I ask how you felt the day after the retrieval? I've had to have the day off work as I'm still really uncomfortable. Wasn't expecting to feel like this!
Firstly, congratulations on your egg collection. I had mine last Saturday and this was my 2nd collection. At my first collection, I was very nauseous and was vomiting due to the anasthesia. Came back with a very tender belly. I was at a risk of OHSS hence they decided to do a frozen transfer instead to give my body time to 'recover'. Are they planning a frozen transfer for you as well? What symptoms are you having?
My symptoms were 1st day, very tender and sensitive belly. Belly to me looked like a 'pouch'. My Dr was very attentive, checking up on me which I appreciated as all this is very new for me. I found the discomfort to get less day by day (but I still looked bloated) but was beginning to feel more comfortable.
After 3 weeks, I remember telling my husband that I am so glad for this break as I finally feel that my stomach area is back to normal, so this was a major relief. My OHSS resolved on its own with time. This was when we decided to do the 2nd cycle, so the whole process starts again and the bloating started all over again.
I just did my egg transfer just a while ago and while I am bloated, its getting a bit more manageable. At this cycle, we were doing a fresh transfer, so that's I had to start taking cyclogest which was a another new drug for my body. This new drug coupled with the recent egg collection made me bloated/constipated and that's why I reached out online. Today is day 3 and I feel better than day 1 so that's positive.
A close family member was also doing IVF and she did not have bad bloating but had OHSS which lead to a lot of weight gain around the belly which did not subside, vomitting and shortness of breath. If you do have these symptoms, then you must get help. I am not sure if you are in a position to take more leave, but if you can, it would be good to rest this out.
I hope you feel better soon, I only started seeing a difference on day 3, so hopefully by tomorrow, you'll see some improvement.
Check out the section on OHSS on theduff.co.uk/ it’s very well explained. If you’re feeling super unwell you should really monitor your weight gain and urine as it’s a clear sign.OHSS needs to be taken super seriously. I was bloated ++++ for 3 to 4 days after each egg collection, but only put on 1 kilo and could pee properly so I knew it wasn’t too bad.
The 3 to 4 days post collection are always the worse for me. It’s the hardest part
Thank you this is really helpful I will check out that website. I think my symptoms are quite normal I'm just bloated and tender really. Not taking any painkillers so not too bad and I'm seeing normally. Trying to drink loads of water. Thanks for your advice!
Thank you, I have been on the duff and yes I agree this is a good clear website. I have been monitoring my weight and it has increased but its slowly now going down and I am able to pass urine okay.
I was so bloated initially right after egg collection and taking cyclogest that I could not tell if this is to be expected or my OHSS was getting worse. I have been monitoring my symptom and with time, they are getting better.
Hope they continue to improve and good luck on your journey too!
This is so helpful thanks for your response. I'm hoping to do a fresh transfer they're going to check my hormone levels Thursday and Saturday and I guess it will depend on those results. Really good to hear you've started feeling better by day 3.
I'm just bloated and my stomach is tender. Also feel exhausted but I think that's from the anaesthesia. Don't have any shortness of breath or vomiting so I'm hoping it's just mild OHSS symptoms which will continue to get better as yours did. Wish I had weighed myself now so could monitor weight gain! Is that water weight gain or actual fat?
Think I'm going to take the rest of the week off not much point in being at work feeling awful. Really grateful for your advice thank you! Good luck with your fresh transfer!
Thank you. I'm no expert but does sound to me like mild OHSS and hopefully this gets better soon. With rest and plenty of fluids, you will get better soon.
The weight gain I had was water weight gain. There also could be a little bit of fat gain as during lockdown, I'm nowhere as active.
