I feel like such an idiot

We did egg retrieval on Tuesday. Since last Friday, I’ve been nauseous, boob swelling, stomach bloating, mood swings, so I took a pregnancy test today. It showed positive. I surprised my husband and we were so excited. Of course we thought it must have happened naturally somehow, so I called the doctor. She told me the trigger shot prior to egg retrieval has high HCG levels which will definitely give a positive test. They never told me this. I get that we still have hope for the eggs that fertilized but I’m also so disappointed. I feel so stupid right now.

Aww sorry you weren't told this. Also it will probably still be in your sysyem a while which is why they advice not to test after transfer until the specfic date. Good luck!

Don’t feel stupid. There’s no way you would have known this if they didn’t explain. And it’s completely natural to feel pregnant when on the stims because they are the same hormone that your body would produce when you are actually pregnant. It’s a cruel trick on the body. And you do hear of stranger things happening so please don’t beat yourself up. You’ve got some eggies that will hopefully make some beautiful blastocysts and maybe this time in 3 weeks you’ll be looking at a positive pregnancy test for real 💖💖💖

Thank you so much 💕 I just wish they told me the trigger shot can show a positive pregnancy test. How disappointing. But we’re still hoping for IVF to work

Forgive yourselves. It's only natural to get excited about the symptoms you were showing. It's a pity they didn't advise you not to take any tests until your two weeks, but that's easier said than done. Stay positive and look after each other. I've got everything crossed for you. Good luck x
