Feeling a bit stressed and wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation?
I'm now on 11 days of menopur and have my second scan planned for tomorrow. My first scan showed there were 2 decent sized follicles, one medium and some little ones.
This is my second cycle, and I have low AMH- I had 5 follicles on the first round so I'm really disappointed at there only being 2 now.
I'm worried that egg collection won't go ahead... The nurse said we will have to wait and see. This is my last funded try as I turned 40 this week, so I'm so so keen to progress with the follicles I have.
Has anyone been in this situation? I know my chances are slim but I do want to try....
Thanks 🥰

Hi, I only had 1 follicle and 1 egg retrieved and now have a gorgeous 11 month old. Quality not quantity. I kept reminding myself it only takes one! I was 42 when I gave birth with a really low AMH. Don’t give up hope, it is possible. Good luck x
A friend of mine had really low AMH & had only one follicle, one egg, one chance. And she’s half way through her pregnancy now. There’s always a chance x
Yeah why would you waste 2 follicles by cancelling! My AMH was 2.1 and I had 2 follicles throughout. 2 smaller ones showed up on the last scan but were pointless as too small.
Those 3 follicles have given me a newborn baby boy and 2 blastocyst in the freezer. Yeah the odds are lower and we would all love to have more, but you do just need 1 good quality one!
Hiya, I think I was in a similar situation to you at my first scan if I’m understanding correctly and in my second scan was similar so they gave me more meds and the medium follicles and one of the smaller ones caught up going from 2 to 5. I had to go for an extra scan and my egg collection got pushed back for the smaller ones to catch up. Maybe they’ll be able to tweak your meds and push back egg collection to help xx
Hi there, I assume this response may come too late but you should go ahead with the collection and press for it hard!. You only need couple to make it work. Yes it may be that you don’t get blastocysts but it is better to give it a go with the couple you have vs. none at all, specially if this is is not a self-funded cycle! Many people end up having only a couple and they still go ahead in private treatment so it should not be denied from you in a cycle that is funded. What tends to happen in cases with only a few eggs is that if the few are collected, the first hurdle is fertilisation, if any make through then they are likely to suggest/ you should suggest that you go for a day 3 transfer (and not wait until day 5), again, if the embryos make it to day 3. This was my situation, I had two embryos transferred on day 3 as you body can be a “better incubator” than the lab. I ended up pregnant. As it happened later on the pregnancy did not carry to the full term (with a live baby) but I want you to understand that even with 2-3 it is not a wasted effort. The odds are against success but it may still work. Now, if you are self-funding, then you might consider skipping and going to the next cycle but only if this is a one-off cycle of only a few eggs. If having only a few eggs is normal for you then aim for the “day 3 method”.
I had four follicles that could be seen on my tracking scans. One was suspected to be a cyst and the rest were small. They went ahead with egg collection and prepared me for potentially no eggs collected. We got five in the end, which seemed ridiculous given that only four follicles were seen, only one fertilised and he is my six month old son now! Anything can happen. Push push push for that egg collection. You’ve got this!! Xxx
Thank you so much everyone! Your stories have given me lots more hope! The second scan yesterday showed that the 2 follicles have grown but none of the smaller ones have caught up unfortunately. The doctor gave me the option to cancel but as this is my final NHS try (I was 40 on Wednesday 🙈) I'm definitely going to go ahead.... Like you say, why waste the 2 follicles?! So egg collection is planned for Tuesday 🤞🤞
I had my first round in November, we had 5 follicles and it resulted in a good quality blastocyst and pregnancy. Unfortunately I lost the pregnancy very early which was devastating. But it does hopefully show that my eggs are OK, if we can get them..??
The doctor was lovely but not very optimistic at all and tried to manage my expectations. I'm clinging to the fact that it only takes one! 🤞🤞 Xxx
Just an update... I got 3 eggs!! This is better than I could have hoped for. Thank you all so much for your reassurances and sharing your experiences... You gave me hope 💕Now to crossing my fingers for 3 good embryos 🤞🤞🤞😃 xxx
