Oxford Vaccine whilst on fertility journey

Hi Ladies

I am being offered the above vaccine at work and I am very grateful, however I unsure whether to have it.

I am looking to have my second IVF treatment in April. I spoke to the nurse today who said I can go ahead and have the vaccine and that they would only advise against the vaccine, if I was having treatment already or pregnant. I am due to have the first dose of vaccine this weekend but worried the second one will be due when I start my treatment.

What to do?

Has anyone had it whilst on their fertility journey ?

My clinic and the HFEA advice was that as long as the vaccine is given more than 7 days before egg collection or embryo transfer it would be fine. I had mine in early January whilst downregulating for my frozen transfer (which happened yesterday). If it’s successful I’ll reconsider whether to have the second vaccine in April. I’m patient facing in hospital so high risk for catching covid and am worried that having covid would be riskier on a pregnancy than the theoretical risk of the vaccine x

I’ve had the first dose of Pfizer vaccine as well 3 weeks ago and will start the treatments with the period after my next. I’m in a patient facing job so I reasoned it is better to have some protection and although we don’t know that much about the vaccines the technology is well established.

Hey Katie. I had the AZ vaccine a couple of weeks ago and due to start next month. I’m going to see if I can pull forward my appt for the second dose so I’ve had it before we start. But if not, as others have said felt it better to have some protection than none at all. It’s a tough and personal decision but on balance I felt it was worth it given the overall Covid risk. And as Sandyels said, although this vaccine is new, it’s based on well established other vaccines and science x

Ahh I was shivery, had body ache , sore throat and ears yesterday. Was very rough yesterday. Feel slightly better today although arms are still sore. Keep taking paracetamol regularly to manage the symptoms. Everyone at my work place are suffering too.. really hoping I feel better soon xx

I had the first dose of the pfizer vaccine 2 weeks ago, I was due to have a FET about 10 days later and the consultant in site said to go ahead and have as they don't advise against it while TTC. They were also nice enough to move my second dose forward so I could get both out of the way asap. She said it was up to me and the fertility clinic to then go ahead with the FET or maybe wait for the next cycle which is what I chose. That way I can have the second dose next week and the FET 2 weeks later. My clinic agreed that was the best decision so I can be protected during pregnancy x

In our recent webinar with the HFEA and British Fertility Society updating on COVID and fertility treatment, we covered the vaccine with some advice from the British Fertility Society on this. You may find it helpful. The webinar is only 30 mins and the discussion about the vaccine is in the second half - youtube.com/watch?v=LSCt_-n...
