Advice/Opinions - IVF/IUI/Donor

Hello

, I’m 39 and have a 5 year old son who was conceived 2nd round of IVF. Now trying for baby number 2, I have a very low egg reserve.

Started first round of IVF in November, after 11 days of stimulating got 3 follicles and my consultant recommended if did IVF high risk of having no eggs to transfer, so converted to IUI instead. The IUI I was surprised worked but then had chemical miscarriage.

Started round 2 in January and unfortunately by day 15 stimulating had 2 very small follicles so had to cancel round.

My consultant is saying because the likely ness is I won’t get enough eggs to proceed with IVF to save money give IUI a try for a few months. My worry is I have a very low egg reserve and am 39 so egg quality not as good, and IUI success rate isn’t great for someone my age. Wondering if others would push for IVF over IUI, give IUI a couple more goes or to forget about my eggs and start thinking of using donor eggs.

Anyone's advice / opinions would be great.

Thanks

I’d look at natural IVF or natural modified IVF first which is good for women with very low AMH....my clinic (begins with C) specialises in treating women who have AMH so low that they aren’t able to have treatment at other clinics. For me I would always exhaust the own egg option first

Thank you for your reply. Ideally of course I want to use my own eggs, think I just worry at times if it’s the right option. I hadn’t heard about these clinics, will have a look into them, thank you.

Hi, similar story here. Low AMH and poor responder. Had to quit IVF because my body never responded to stims and only ever produced 1 egg each cycle. Did 2 IUIs after and got pregnant right away but lost it at 6 weeks. Decided to move on and research donor eggs overseas to get a sibling for my 2 year old and 2 weeks ago I found out I was pregnant. I'm 5 weeks 4 days now and freaking out. Btw....my AMH is 0.16 now and it was 0.52 when I conceived my daughter at 38. They told me that I had the same chance of conceiving naturally as I had with IVF. Basically 1% chance. I'm gonna wait and see how this goes and if this pregnancy doesn't work out, I'm definitely getting donor eggs. I feel like I gave my own eggs enough chances - not to mention the $ 50,000 thrown at it. (Fertility treatments in the US are insanely expensive). Feels almost liberating to know that donor eggs are always an option if nothing else works. Good luck to you!

Thank you for your reply and Congratulations. Hearing others have fallen pregnant definitely makes you feel more positive doesn’t it. Good luck to you too.
