Unexplained infertility

I'm not sure i have a question but just really want to talk to someone.

I am as above says unexplained got told this in October and then got told I am on the IVF waiting list and the clinic basically said we will be in touch. Since then I have been googling, youtubing, instagraming anything that can help or give me any idea what could be wrong.

I have never been pregnant, and trying to be good but also living my life.

It would be nice to know there are people in the same position as me.

Anyway TIA!

Hi Laura! You've definitely come to the right place. I am also "unexplained" although the more scans i had the more i started to find out that i had certain things such as a retroverted uterus and yesterday was told i had a polyp on one side but was smaller than 1mm - although that could have been caused by the IVF drugs i have been taking for the last week. Have you had all the tests such as HSG and all your bloods have come back fine for progesterone, AMH, vitamin D etc? I had low progesterone but my AMH was fine for my age (i'm 39). xxx

I've had it all done tubes all clear, bloods all normal. Progesterone at day 21 was again normal. Never been tested for vit d but taking a supplement.I just feel so frustrated and lonely.

Hi Laura!

I am sorry you are in this situation, it is so frustrating and at the same time quite difficult to be told that they can’t find anything that could be wrong as you feel something must be for it never to happen.

We were told we had unexplained infertility too. We had been trying for 3 years and nothing was happening. All our tests came back normal. They did find a fibroid on one of my scans - so I needed a myomectomy. We were told the fibroid was not a cause of our infertility though.

We were in contact with our fertility clinic for a while - think we first saw them Summer 2019. They wanted us to try naturally for 3 months after I had recovered from surgery just in case, but still nothing. We were officially placed on the IVF waiting list in April 2020, but knew we had to wait a while due to pandemic. They said normally waiting times were 6 weeks, but longer at present. We were approved for one round with the NHS (thank you NHS 💙🙏).

They contacted us in October to say it was our turn, so we started our first cycle of IVF with my cycle in November 🥰

To try feel like I was doing something while we were waiting, I decided to look at my diet and make sure I got all the right nutrients. We are both fairly healthy as it is, normal BMI, but decided to research that a bit and upped my vegetable intake - especially green veg. Also made sure I got protein, healthy fats and incorporated more fish to our diet.

Sorry - slightly long reply 😇🥰 I wish you all the best and hopefully it will not feel like such a long wait for you! 🤞

I see you've got good news congrats! We are healthy too BMIs all normal, don't smoke but enjoy a bottle of wine over the weekend, I don't want to cut out all the jobs in my life.

As said I just feel I've been given this diagnosis and told to wait, I feel lonely, sad, frustrated. I read the same articles to try and reassure myself all the time. I would love to switch it off sometimes.

Thank you 🥰 Early, early days.. but trying to just enjoy that first step!

It is very hard - and even if you try switch off, a little part of you hope so badly each month that it has worked out, but then you get so disappointed and reminded all over again on that cycle day 1.

I did read a few books about how to change my mindset as well prior to starting and learnt about mindfulness. Not sure if any of this will help or if it makes a difference, but it has seemed to help me remain calmer through this process so far!

I have also seen people getting their thyroid function checked. Mine was checked by my GP early on and my clinic checked it again prior to starting. My vitamin D levels were low, so I started on some stronger supplements too.

Xx

Yes Laura i think a lot of us on here are in the in unexplained category. I like you have spent numerous hours on Dr google but it doesn’t give you answers.

Frustrating as it is you have learn as you go. Learn you’re body, what it does when. Changes that might happen and things in your life that might be effecting you and have been totally unaware of.

So many things can effect fertility. These things the clinics do not discuss with you as they just go straight to IVF in most cases. I really don’t believe in unexplained. I just think sometimes there is not enough time spent focusing on the right things that can affect conceiving and pregnancy.

Saying this I have gone through one cycle of IVF which failed and I am due to go through an FET in the new year. This is because I have hit a brick wall and I am 35 and have 4 frozen embryos and don’t know what really to do next apart from continue. It’s a tough journey, mentally and emotionally exhausting, but it’s the route that so many of us take to reach to reach motherhood.

My advise is educate yourself as much as you can on fertility and IVF. Be confident in what you want and remember that you are never alone!

Best of luck on your journey.,
