Hi Hannah

I’m from Australia, it depends what sort of clinic you go to and if you have Medicare. Medicare will give rebates on the cost of drugs and treatment

We went to a private clinic and just paid $12500 and got back $5500 from Medicare.

Some clinics are all funded so your out of pocket expenses will be around $3500

I hope that all makes sense. 😊

Hello :-) I second the above and that’s for a full cycle (egg collection and usually a transfer of an embryo) and then a frozen transfer is about $3000-$4000 ($1500 back from Medicare) if you have any frozen embryos from your transfer.

After one cycle of IVF you meet the Medicare safety net threshold which means for the rest of the calendar year you get more money back from Medicare but you have to apply for this through Medicare.

Also, all your meds are not part of that up front fee - for me this was maybe another $400-$500 for a stimulation cycle.

Also if you have private health that covers you for your day hospital fees on egg collection day (saves you about $1500) but you pay your excess of course. Once you pay the excess the first time you don’t have to pay it again for subsequent cycles you have in that year 😊

Hi I lived in Sydney for 6yrs and did 6 cycles over there with Genea and IVF Australia, both of which I was pretty unimpressed with. Genea was more expensive and more rubbish too. You’re just treated like a number. With Medicare benefits and private medical insurance, the IVF rounds worked out slightly cheaper in out of pocket costs than if we’d done them in the Uk, however having had cycles in the UK too to I’m kinda left disillusioned and disappointed by the whole fertility industry! Some clinics seem so much more proactive than others, I’ve just always felt like an animal on a conveyor belt going through with millions of others with never any personalised approach ever and I’ve used three clinics. All the very best x

Thank you for your reply. I concur with other posts re the kind of costs you’d be looking at in Oz. Reaching the Medicare threshold helps too as it gave us less of an out of pocket cost. Apologies for sounding negative, had a very long run at all this & battling endometriosis too and am utterly exhausted by it!!! I wish you all the very best going forward x
