Do I have grounds to complain?

Just a bit of background shortened down because it's so long

-a year into trying went GP (this was July 2018)

-day 21 bloods confirmed ovulation

-semen sample

-0% motility

-another sample 7% motility

-he was referred to urology

-amh 10.7 and I was 28 at the time

-I had a hycosy nothing else (no concerns)

-urology just looked at his balls and sent him on his way saying don't worry

- tried 6 months naturally now under gynae fertility.

-he lost 5 stone took vitamins

-went back 6 months later and got referred for ivf (only get 1 funded cycle)

-went to ivf clinic November 2019 and due to start day after boxing day

-I then get my first ever internal scan where they find a huge polyp

-I'd had heavy periods for 18 months prior to this so assume it's been there the whole time causing no implantation of potential embryo

-surgery (twice) to remove

-go through ivf July 2020 due to covid

-6 eggs collected 5 fertilised with icsi 2 make it to 5 day.

-semen sample still 7% motility even after 5 stone weight loss diet change bla bla

-first fresh failed

-one frozen remaining

-I can't understand why he is still 7%

-i push him to gp push and push for urology again and push and push for a scan

-scan last week

-varicocele in left testicle along with a stone and cyst

-gp rings saying this is why you are infertile I can't believe urology missed it last time

-I just feel my time and fertility has been pissed up the wall

-varicoceles are positively associated with high dna fragmentation and embryo arrest.

Day 3 I had 5 eight cell perfect embryos.

-I just don't want to let this lie now

-could I appeal for another cycle?

Thanks

Hi Kirsty,

It seems like you have had a really tough time so far. I have no experience of appealing for additional treatment, but having read through your post I think it would definitely be worth a conversation with the CCG.

At the very beginning of our journey we were incorrectly referred which caused delays in starting treatment. I managed to speak to a lady at our CCG, who was actually the one who told me this was the case, and she was really helpful and put me on the right track.

All the best

Suzannah

Hello Kirsty,

Sorry you've been through this, it's a tough journey without this added stress. I does seem like you haven't been treated fairly and worrying they have missed things! It may be worth an appeal, maybe ask them how long an appeal would take? If it was myself, I'd also be wary of how long an appeal would take? You still have your little frostie waiting for you to give you some hope 💛

I know how disheartening it can feel, we had 1 cycle on the NHS and only 5 eggs collected, 1 blast and a BFN. Hope the rest of your journey is more positive!! X

You poor things! Everything takes such a long time in IVF and it’s all such a lottery I’d definitely appeal it. Good luck x

Unfortunately I would say there is no grounds for appeal as you made it to egg collection and did have several embryos in the running on day 3. Normally appeals only get granted if there is a major failing in care and you don’t make it to egg collection x

But varicoceles are associated with high dna fragmentation in sperm. Therefore each of my eggs were probably injected with poor quality sperm (no dna frag test was done, so they probably looked ok') therefore I ended up with abnormal embryos. There is a case definitely x

Wow sounds like you really have been messed around 😢 I think you would have the right to appeal. Are you wanting to have another round of IVF through NHS? Xxx

Hi everyone

I would want another cycle on the NHS.

Varicoceles are positively associated with high dna fragmentation in sperm, so I could have ended up with more embryos at day 5, even my frozen embryo might be abnormal because of his sperm. How else can they say sorry for their failings? They can't give me 2 years of my fertility back, but they can give me another cycle. Xx
