Egg freezing - age 35, looking at my options

Hi all,

I have recently had a follicle count and AMH tested and came out with a total of 14 follicles between the ovaries (6 on one and 8 on the other), AMH of 1.21 ng/ml (which I understand translates to 8.57 on the other scale). It seems to me that it is still at the lower or moderate end and I am due to see a fertility consultant this weekend, as the gynaecologist wasn't particularly clear. I am looking at fertility clinics in Spain - IVI in particular. Any advice would be really welcome! Thank you

I don’t have any advice regarding going abroad and clinics etc. But I just wanted to wish you luck and say your numbers seem ok to me. 14 follicles is a good count for a baseline. And although your AMH might appear quite low a lot of ladies on here will agree that is not the most important thing. Hope your journey works out for you xx

Hi legally_baby,

14 follicles is good number! As Mutley said, your AMH is on the lower side for your age. I’m also 35 and my AMH is the same as yours I was told it wouldn’t stop me getting pregnant but I shouldn’t wait to start a family.

I can’t speak for the Spanish clinic but I used IVI in London for IVF and they were brilliant x

Hello lovely, don’t worry AMH only gives an indication of egg numbers but egg quality is also very important. Your first cycle will give an understanding of quality but of course every cycle is different. There are a few resources you can read ‘it starts with an egg’ or Zita West’s books. Might be worth getting in touch with a fertility nutritionist too. It’s worth trying what ever you can to ensure your egg quality is as good as possible. Remember all it takes is one good quality egg! Best of luck Xx

I don't think your amh is low it's still in the normal range. Your follicle count seems great too. What shall we say who have really low amh. 😑 Don't worry really. I just recommend banking your follicles in case you have no partner and need to put off kids for a while. Low amh below 1 has been proven not really to affect fertility when you are in your twenties and early 30s. Studies have shown there were not particularly much difference with women with high amh and women with lower amh. The main issue is mainly age they say. You will be doing fine!

Thanks, everyone! I had gone to see a fertility specialist and was told that AMH, although on the lower end, is fine, and that the main indicator was the number of follicles which he said is good. I breathed a sigh of relief at that! He did say freeze eggs now though, do not wait.

Hey! did you ever end up freezing your eggs? I'm looking to do the same, researching for a clinic at the moment. Thanks!

Hi there, I froze mine four years ago at age 36. It definitely helped take the pressure off while trying to find a partner. It also adds information about your response to ivf drugs on the off chance you need it in future. So I would always recommend freezing. Good Luck! X

Thank you! I am almost certain I want to do this but I have a number of reservations, as I heard it can be quite a difficult thing to go through for your body. How did you find it?

Also, I have to travel abroad to do this, as where I live at present you can only freeze for 5 years and use them only if you are married. It's so hard to plan this in the pandemic!

Wow, I’m very surprised at those rules! I even thought the government changes the storage duration due to COVID to make it longer.

It’s the same process as ivf, you just don’t fertilise and put them back. So many ladies on here can and have shared their experiences. For me the first was harder as they got the meds wrong and I had some OHSS. The second was much better. It’s quite emotionally draining doing it in your own. But as I said, definitely worth it x
