I haven’t written for a while and hope that everyone is doing okI know it’s hard but I’m sure you all know how much support is generated through here and amongst friends😀
I wondered if anyone has views on egg freezing at 40? I’m not sure it’s right time for me to do a second cycle this time with icsi. Any advice about trying again (I’d need to get anothe small bank loan) and doing stimms to create embryos with a donor and then freeze any that survived straight away. Obviously there’s a chance I won’t get any but at least I’m oreserving what I have now! Then I can concentrTe on Dating or with my start up business rather than this blind panic you know ..... any advice? Xxx🤓

Hi there, I think it’s great that you are taking this step to reach your dreams, just because you’re single doesn’t mean you can’t do it. Can I ask why you’ll be doing a freeze all and not transfer?
I am in the same position as you, after 3 failed cycles, my relationship broke down but I have decided to go it alone next year (probably Spring/Summer) but this will be my last attempt due to funds but mainly mental health as I found it pretty tough previously.
I wish you lots of luck and if you need to chat you can always PM me xx
Thanks so much for taking the time and apologies for not replying until now! Rubbish!
You sound incredibly resilient and strong.
I’m workibg in a quite stressful environment it’s a good job but it’s quite harsh environment. That on top of going straight from stimming to ec to transfer and ivf is a lot!
I think transferring into my system when it’s drug free would be beneficial stress wise!
I think that’s a better plan than just freezing your eggs. Eggs don’t defrost well so you need a lot for freezing. I’m 39 and just got pregnant with IVF twins with a donor. My husband has problems with his sperm, we have a little boy together but went through 3 years of IVF for our second which didn’t work, worked first time with the donor so my eggs are obviously good enough quality at this age but there are a lot less of them. Back when we were trying for my son they’d collect 18 eggs 16 of which viable. However after reaching 35 I found my body stopped responding to down regulation drugs, so a short protocol worked better for me, but only 10 eggs collected 8 of which viable and 5 fertilised, 4 blastos remained at Day 5. If you added defrosting to the mix you might again be reducing the numbers.
So yes I’d fertilise and freeze embryos personally. Or I’d do 3 rounds of egg freezing to bump the supply.
I froze 14 eggs at the age of 39-40, to take the pressure off and find the right person. I chose not to fertilise them with donor sperm and freeze them as embryos. I haven’t used them yet but I’m hopeful.
A friend of mine did the same and had twins from her first go after defrosting. Also technology advances with time so the defrosting has improved.
Embryo freezing is a better option than egg freezing imho, but only you can know whether it’s what you want to do. The reason I say embryo freezing is that there’s much better chance of it ending up as a baby.
