As some of you already know I had 11 eggs retrieved on Monday. Out of 11 eggs 7 were mature (exactly that many I was predicting as I only get mature eggs if my follicles are 20+mm) and out of 7 mature eggs 6 are fertilised β€οΈ.
We always had a very good fertilisation report 80-90% of our eggs are fertilised but than reaching to blast is a big problem. We know that this proves once again that we have a problem with the sperm. Anyone on the same situation? What can be improved in regards to sperm quality? We do not have DNA 𧬠fragmentation, just low motility, morphology and count π

(one blasto first round but x, then this round two blastos with a + and one in freezer. )
Fingers crossed they picked the good ones this time . Come on little π₯ π₯ π₯ π₯ π₯ π₯ ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»πππππππππ
We were similar last week - went from 13 eggs, 9 were mature, 6 fertilised and 3 good quality blastocysts by the end. OTD on Friday... Back in December using my frozen eggs we went from 27 eggs down to 2 poor quality embryos.
I canβt remember reading anyone who has more than 4 blastocysts, whatever number of eggs were collected. We donβt have any known sperm issues. Itβs probably because Iβm 40. So Iβm afraid I donβt have any advice. Just wanted to say it all sounds familiar and keep positive x
I do the same though process each round too, hope for more than prior rounds like weβve βfixed the problemβ with our changes to protocol etc π€¦πΌββοΈ Just got to keep π€π€π€π€ youβve done your best and now itβs down to Mother Nature and the lab. Come on little embryos go!!
Yes you are absolutely right Mother nature is playing her role nothing can be done about that π₯Ί but she hasnβt been good with me so far π€·ββοΈπ’
It sounds like the sperm have done their work fertilising the eggs. So lack of progression of some of the eggs (which sounds normal) could be due to chromosomal abnormalities on maternal side. Don't think there is any way of knowing? Been told 60% of embryos are abnormal at 40. But in any case your result sounds really good with good odds. Good luck!
We are doing PGS testing that is the reason for hoping in getting more blastocyst, we paid for 8 embryos to be tested and we only have 1 embryo from last cycle that is on ice. Doctor told us that the quality of eggs is good last time we had 8 eggs fertilised and 7 made to day 3 and only one to day 5/6. I am 29 years old and AMH of 35 π€·ββοΈ
We experienced the same issue. In my first cycle, they collected 5 eggs, 2 fertilised and reached blastocysts. Dr suggested husband takes vitamins to boost the low motility. I think this worked as in the second cycle, they collected 8 eggs, 6 fertilised and 4 reached good quality blastocysts. I didnβt think the vitamins would have that much of an impact to be honest but it appears to have done the trick!
We took one full year vitamins before we had our last 2 cycles but nothing is improving our results apparently. My husband was on Menopur/ Meriofert to boost his quality, quantity and worked on short term but now we are back to the square oneπππ€
Hello Ranchu90, I am not at IVF stage yet, in fact I'm at the very beginning of this whole fertility journey...but we thought that as well as my issue, my husband had an issue with morphology (0), count and slightly on motility (from memory). Morphology and count were the concerns. Anyway, for the last 4 months he has been taking proceive for men, fertility supplement...i havent had the results yet from his test in July, but when speaking to the consultant the other day, she said all his results were absolutely fine. (which is great because they were of concern before). I get a copy today so I can determine how good they are!!! so I can come back to you to provide confirmation but I know that because of this supplement taking and also he has been that much more active too the last few months. Not that he wasn't before but the job he was doing meant he was sitting down sometimes for long periods and now he has a very active job.
So these two together we believe have made the difference!!! To add to this, We eat super healthy. Zinc for men is very good, so shell fish and oily fish i would also recommend.
I'm surprised the doctor has said what they have said....also if it is of any interest, you could go and see a nutritionist who will examine his diet and also advise if he is deficient on anything and which WILL improve the quality of his sperm.
I appreciate everyoneβs opinion π we are on this journey for over 5 years π and nothing really helped him only exception was Menopur/Meriofert injections. Vitamins he took plenty but no major changes. We are not eating take aways or prepared food, I am cooking daily fresh food. Sometimes I just think that is purely bad luck ππ£
I donβt know what I am hoping for right now... the disappointments that we had during all these years made us immune. We just had an update saying that all our 6 embryos are still developing. 3 of them are good quality and no fragmentation and 3 of them have more cells than they should have for day 2 π€ the history is repeating!!!
Its hard doing more cycles as we are more aware of the things that can go wrong and it just puts that fear into you....I completely sympathise! However you have 3 that are sounding really good for now so some good news for now!!xx
My OH took Imperyl vitamins. Ordered online. Expensive but worth it for 2-3months before IVF. Also he reduced his alcohol intake and improved diet. Have u read the book "It starts with the egg"? Wishing you the very best on your journey.
Yes I read that book and not only. I feel that we did everything we could do to improve things starting with vitamins, eating healthy, embryoscope, changing clinic, PGS, eggs quality improvement by taking supplements etc but we have one single thing missing "good luck" ππ
I do believe in chance and luck but not in miracles π€£π¬ we are waiting now to see the final results and then we will make a final decision β€οΈπ
Ahhhh. That's my biggest worry! I'm thinking of maybe moving to a day 3 transfer instead day 5 this time as I am worried about that. Let us know how it goes! x
we had issues with sperm and had 3 fertilise and 3 make it at class A, we lost the first but I'm currently looking at my Mum feed our little frostie... you can do this!!! all the best!!! xxx
Hi Ranchu90, I have been through 3 rounds of IVF. We have a problem with the sperm as well but its mainly DNA fragmentation. We did our first round as ICSI. Our second round was ICSI and IMSI (this is where they screen the sperm under magnifying glass and carefully select the sperm). This third cycle we have done IMSI and we have done PGS. I had 15 eggs - 12 fertilised and 10 matured to blasto. Of those 10 embryos , 6 were deemed healthy in terms of chromosomes. We are now left with 6 embryos in the freezer. I had my transfer on Monday. I have been told that with PGS there is a much higher chance of success as the majority of failed implantations are due to chromosomal abnormalities. I also tested my natural killer cells (not evidence based) but can some times cause your uterus to reject the embryo. Might be worth looking into all of these options. I wish you the best of luck with it all. its a tough journey. I am in the middle of my 2ww hoping it has finally worked. take care xxxx
