Sensitive viability scan, small sac

Bozo_the_pumpkin profile image

My viability scan showed 2 strong heart beats but one yolk sac was small and the other big. My question is.. can One baby be a slow starter and still catch up or should they both be the same size as the they were transferred in the same day? 6 weeks 2 days pregnant

I have no experience or read anything about this situation before but i just wanted to say that the 2 strong heartbeat sounds comforting, what did the person say who done the scan?I am thinking of you and sending you lots of love... ❤ 🤞

Hi.. thanks for responding. The tech pretty much said that it would be a surprise if the little one survives.. but that it is classed as viable because of the presence of a heartbeat.

Usually when there are twins one measures smaller than the other… I am in the same situation I am pregnant with twins one twin was measuring 4 days smaller than the other one and by the next scan they were measuring the same…. Blessings

Thank you for your response.. I hope the little one catches up .. but it looked quite small in the scan so I am a bit worried

Hi Bozo_the_pumpkin. In my experience when one is a little slow groing, it can sometimes catch up. However, if, when you are rescanned the smaller one hasn't grown, it might not. Let's hope that they are just slow starters and will catch up. Thinking of you. Diane

Thank you Diane, the info is much appreciated. I guess all I can do it wait. Fingers crossed 🤞🏽

My little twin her sac was more than half the size of her brothers at the 6 week scan and 7 week one (at 7 weeks his sac was something like 35mm but hers was 17mm) - she also measured around 3 days behind whilst her sac was over a week behind.

I suspect she was my day 6 which was thawed only a few hours before the transfer so slow to get going m whereas my boy was the one thawed on day 3 so was very active and considered “fresh” when transferred

I read somewhere drinking lots of water might help so drank and drank until I literally sloshed and by 10 weeks was told the difference wasn’t so noticeable and She was out of the danger zone

Thank you so much for responding to my post. It was quite shocking to see the little one on the screen during the scan. The tech pretty much dismissed the smaller twin saying that she would honestly be very surprised if it survived.. and ‘that we would call it a twin pregnancy for now ..’😖 I am heartened to hear from someone who went through it themselves. I thought that it was cut and dried that I would lose the little one until I started reading and reaching out to people. Our situation is pretty much the same as yours was.. the smaller twin was less than half the size of the bigger twin. I hope he will grow and catch up too.. I am sloshing around in water as we speak as I have read somewhere that water helps growth😄 I am very glad that everything worked out well for you.. and thanks again for the info. I always feel better and braver after chatting with the ladies on this forum

All the best lovely! I really hope the little one makes it. I cant remember how differently ours measured but one was a few days behind the other so smaller. Although he didnt catch up, he made it but was always measuring a few days behind. Even now that they are here one is smaller than the other. Keeping everything crossed for you!xxx

Oh thank you Cinders… always good to hear from people with personal experience - your story gives me hope. Next scan in 2 weeks when I’m 9 weeks so fingers crossed. Xxx
