I am not entitled to NHS treatment and have been discharged from the local NHS fertility clinic. We are going to begin treatment with local fertility clinic, however they only go straight to IVF/IUI treatments. Medicated cycles such as letrozole, clomid etc. have never been offered. How do you get considered for medicated cycles before having to go straight to expensive and invasive treatments? Thanks in advance.

Hello, we found the same when we self referred, from what I have seen Clomid etc tends to be suggested by the GP and then once you are in the fertility clinic loop its the more surgical procedures.
I think it comes down to your GP but also often your age and circumstances. So I was 40 when I went to my GP about infertility and we had already been trying for a number of years so she basically said you have left it too late, don't hang around, go and sort yourself out.
She's never been the best most empathetic GP!
not sure if that helps! Good luck x
Thanks so much Daisy, that does help. Perhaps I should have another chat with my GP.
Hi 👋 my clinic also jumped straight to ivf Because they argue if you have been trying for a while thats usually the step with best chances. I suppose depends on your age time tttc etc. There are clinics that offer ovulation induction (that is with medicine either with or without iui). Did your nhs consultant not consider clomid? I had that for 6 rounds before they referred me to ivf clinic. Mainly bcz my cycles arent regular so they thought i wasnt ovulating although my 21 day blood was normal.
It took me a good two years testing etc before labelled unexplained. What was the reason your nhs consultant didnt do clomid or e.g laparoscopy and dye test? X
