Application for NHS funding - going around in circles??

Hello there. Please could you tell me what the protocol is to get NHS funding for treatment in a private clinic?

After the news that fertility treatment is now back on I’ve just heard that my nhs consultant has gone about things in all the wrong way regarding egg freezing and I have to start all over again. But I’m going around in circles because no one seems to know!

I saw someone at a private clinic in London. They take nhs patients and said that my local nhs hospital have to sort it out. So my gynaecologist wrote you them requested fertility treatment via the nhs. Now they said that my gp has to write to CCG to request funding and then if they agree , then it’s sorted by the GP. Spoke to GP today who was most I unhelpful and kept saying no one is open! I said that nevertheless could she write to the CCG but I’m worried as she is unhelpful AND she hasn’t got a clue about all my history and problems so will just write a really brief note to them without any background. My gynaecologist is the one who wrote to the fertility clinic in the first place and she knows my history as I’ve been seeing her for the last 6 months.

I feel like I’ve now lost valuable time faffing around.

Sorry to hear. We were referred via genetics at hospital and the clinic (private and NHS) applies for our funding from NHS England.

Hi lovely,

I think each CCG has a list of clinics that they work with that you can choose from. If you’re wanting to use a clinic that isn’t on their approved funding list then it’s going to be a lot slower and a lot more faff unfortunately.

You can get the list of clinic for each CCG here: fertilityfairness.co.uk/wp-...

Hi there. The private clinic works with my nhs hospital but then it falls down. Gynae wrote to clinic asking for me to have treatment there, clinic day it has to come from go, go says they have to contact CCG but go won’t put a good case for me because she was rude and dismissive and knows nothing about my situation.
