NHS funded IVF at UCLH, anyone? Or waiting time elsewhere :)

Today our NHS funding has been approved (yay!). We decided to go for the UCLH clinic (procedures are carried out in a private centre, the Centre for Reproductive and Genetic Health) because they offered a slightly higher success rate and some of you said that they were extremely professional and lovely, but mostly because, when questioned on the phone, they said that the waiting time was between 4 to 6 weeks.

However, now I had a look at their website (I was looking for their contact number) and they say that the waiting time is up to 7 months 😱 : uclh.nhs.uk/OurServices/Ser...

Has anyone of you experience on NHS-funded IVF with them? Can you please send me a private message? Thanks :)

I can't comment on this particular clinic - but our NHS wait was 8 months. Xxx

So a very long time. I wonder why they claimed four to six week when called :|

I don't have the nerves of steel needed to survive a 7-8 months waiting :(

I know - that is why people go private.

We had lots of tests in the run up to the actual treatment....it passed some time!

But yes it was painful.

I have already done a few tests either with the NHS (day 4 hormones, sperm counts, ...) or privately (AMH) will this speed up things in your opinion?

I am not 100% sure - every clinic seems to be different so hopefully yours is shorter.

As far as I know the IVF waiting at our clinic was set in stone tests or not - as people on multiple cycles were waiting 8 months in between....

But check with your specific clinic - they will have their own times :)

This is a good point. I will ask once I can get them on the phone, I just wanted to get some piece of mind :)

So also your clinic was posting waiting times that were longer than real? I am not sure I have understood, sorry :|

The clinics waiting times on the website was not updated, so it seemed the wait was longer when it actually wasn’t? If that makes sense x

Hi MofM, I found this post and thought I would ask you if you had started treatment with UCLH ? I am considering UCLH or Hammersmith and it would really be helpful if I can get an update from you on the waiting time at UCLH ? Many thanks and best of luck for you on your IVF journey .

When investigating clinics we have been told by UCLH that their waiting time was 4 to 6 weeks to the first appointment and then that we could start immediately. It ended up being 20 weeks to the first appointment, plus 2+ months waiting time after that. We decided to go privately while waiting to see them for the first time, mostly because it somehow killed our trust in them.

Starting in Greece in mid-November: if it works great, if it doesn't we should still have the NHS parachute (hopefully)

Thank you for your quick response. Hopefully it all goes well in greece so you don’t need to worry about NHS funding:)

UCLH website is so confusing and 7 months waiting from securing funding to actual start of IVF treatment is ridiculous... I went to one of their open evenings and they were mentioning that a private client can get an appointment the same week....I need to check Hammersmith waiting time, hopefully they have better timelines as we cannot afford IVF privately for the moment.

Many thanks for uour reply and hoppelly a BFP for you for Xmas:)

Thank you so much! Hammersmith told us about 10-12 weeks on the phone, if I knew UCLH was lying I would have gone for them :(
