Hi guys. Just thought I'd update. My husband and I had the most excruciating wait and got the above results. Not exactly doubled but only 5 off as hubby keeps pointing out. On 9dp5dt I was 127. I'm happy. Still nervous for some reason. My clinic said this is a good number and haven't asked me to repeat the blood test. I feel like I want to though.
My thyroid came in at 3.11. My clinic told me to speak to my endocrinologist. They know perfectly well I dont have an endocrinologist. My GP hasn't been very helpful to me with my thyroid issues in the past. I know a number bigger than 2.5 put you at risk of miscarriage so I'm not too sure what to do. I have some thyroid medication from before. Shall I start taking it? My friend is flying to Greece for treatment later this month so she can bring me back some more. But nobody will be monitoring it so I'm a bit worried. Any advice would be helpful.
Thank you. I talk about you guys to my husband so often. I say, "Well, the forum says....." and he now says, "why don't you consult the forum?" You guys have been absolutely invaluable to me. I cant thank you enough. Still a long way to go to get my desired outcome but at least its heading in the right direction.

Congrats sounds like the pregnancy is progressing well 👍
My thyroid was over 2.5 & I was bout to undergo thyroid tests ( the antibody one as my fertility doctor would only treat the thyroid if that was “out”) but then I conceived my daughter! I didn’t ask for any GP for treatment as my fertility doctor didn’t seem concerned over it. My point is despite my thyroid being 3.23 the pregnancy was successful.
It’s difficult to be pregnant after fighting with infertility you can’t believe it’s happened & won’t go wrong believe me I’ve been there I was even frightened after decorating Francesca’s nursery in case we lost her. It was there the whole pregnancy we both were on tender hooks ( hubby did better than me) it’s crappy that when you get a BFP you can’t relax & be happy without constant worry. I always thought the BFP would end all the fear but it got worse.
I’m not sure what to suggest ie thyroid maybe speak to a trusted GP that you think will be willing to advise you. And maybe get a referral to a specialist? You’ve gone through so much to get pregnant & I don’t think it’s an unreasonable request. It’ll put your mind at rest. Failing that if you can afford it see a private specialist. Really the fertility clinic should be assisting you with this better & it’s a bit disappointing they’re not.
I wouldn’t self medicate especially in pregnancy.
All the best early weeks are tough but you will get through them xxx
Thanks so much for your reassurance. It means so much to me. You are so right that we look for anything and everything to worry about. The IVF world is so cruel. I've heard so many horror stories that it's hard to enjoy anything. DH reminds me this is the furthest we've ever got.
I will speak to my GP on Monday about my thyroid. Hopefully my Greek clinic will email them a letter and this should help. I just want it monitored maybe fortnightly at least until 12 weeks. I have to keep pushing.
Oh wow I didn't know thyroid could have an impact. EVERYTHING seems to have a possible impact. If your clinic isn't worried about it, I wouldn't worry, but you can always get a second opinion from a second clinic or your GP. We are prone to being more worried than the average person with the ordeal that this journey is, so I can understand wanting to be better safe than sorry.
I know what you mean about the forum by the way. I must say the word forum to my hubby multiple times a day referencing things on here!
Hi sweets. Yes thyroid can play a part. NICE guidelines say thyroid should be 2.5 or below. Higher than this can put you at slightly higher risk of miscarriage. Your fertility doc should be checking your thyroid regularly. But this isn't true for everyone so it's so complicated. This is such a mad journey but thank God for you lovely ladies
Do you take levothyroxine at all currently? The thyroid association have the first trimester TSH as best being under 3.4, which you are 😊, although if you take levothyroxine it should be less than that ideally.
Having it unmonitored isn’t a good idea it’s potentially more dangerous.
Is there another GP at your surgery you could see? I’ve found attitudes to thyroid and fertility to vary a lot x
Hi MrsH86. When I had my thyroid checked before transfer my thyroid was 2.7 so I started taking medication. As it was only slightly high I stopped taking medication about 4 days ago. I assumed it woud have vme down by now.
I've got medication left over so m going to start using it but will see GP this week to get it all checked out properly. My clinic can write a letter. If I have to fight I will. Been doing so for so long now. There is one GP who I think might understand. Thank you're reply. All these messages help put my mind at ease. ❤🙏
Aww good, I’m glad you’ve got a plan of action. It’s so tiring having to fight these extra battles. I can empathise as my previous GP was really rubbish about prescribing for thyroid even though my TSH was over 5 🙄. I think he even tried to question if I had infertility as my husbands in the military so he suggested maybe we just hadn’t seen each other 😴.
My new GP is great though and put up my dose as soon as I went after pregnancy and is going to monitor every 4 weeks so there is hope 🤞❤️ x
I am not an expert on thyroid however, more now than ever, since you are pregnant I wouldn’t take any medication without a doc’s advice. I would ask my fertility doc how to lower that value or I’d seek for a private endocrinologist asap if your GP can’t/doesn’t want ti refer you.
Go to your GP for your thyroid - NHS says you should up your levothyroxine by 50% when pregnant, GP and midwife monitors mine now. Google NHS information and take it with you to your doctor if you think they won't be helpful. But you should have this retested regularly and kept under control to prevent complications so don't do it yourself😀
Hi ya I completely understand and sympathise. My thyroid was just over 2 in Dec and I wish they'd asked to retest it as they didn't do it till day of transfer then it was 3,then on my otd it was 4 but I'm just just going with it. I upped my dose by 25mg as per British thyroid foundation website (worth looking at). I would thrn ask gp about whether you should take thyroxin. Im finding it hard to celebrate bfp too. Best wishes x
I would go to your gp to get it tested and to seek their advice. If you have taken medication prior to pregnancy it is important to have the thyroid tested in pregnancy. I am on 100mcg daily of levothyroxine and was told prior to my ivfs that my thyroid levels would need to be monitored if I got pregnant as the thyroid increases in pregnancy xx
I would definitely not take any medication without consulting a doctor. Thyroid hormones are very strong and this needs to be monitored very closely. You can do a lot of harm in just taking them.
Honestly, I am 37 weeks pregnant and my TSH has always been above 2.5. Your levels are maybe slightly above the ideal but I would not take anything for this, because it is still "normal".
When I got pregnant (the first month my TSH came below 2.5) the GP did a blood test every 2 weeks or so until he was happy TSH wasn’t rising too far. I ended up almost doubling my dose while pregnant to keep levels under the 2.5. I think the advice I got was to add 25mcg immediately, and then take blood tests from there. I didn’t see an endocrinologists but the gp had emailed him/her for advice and acted on this. Congratulations!
