Buying medication outside of clinic

Hi all

I've just started IVF and it's my first self funded. I've read that people take their prescription to places like Asda and buy it there for half the price. I need to buy prednisolone before Saturday and wondered if anyone could recommend where to get this? Healthcare at home was also mentioned.

Has anyone every bought meds outside of their clinic?

Thanks x

I have ordered mine from asda and trees it is significantly cheaper. Go into an asda that's got a pharmacy and show them your prescription. They'll order it on and you'll have to pay in advance and it ought to be in stock a day or so later sometimes if you go early morning they'll have it by the afternoon. Go tomorrow morning if you can xx

sorry to jump in but I’ve got a question about Asda. Do they provide all the needles etc? My clinic said they don’t provide everything so last two goes I’ve just gone straight with the clinic...

Thank you! X

No they don't provide syringes or needles but the clinic should give those to you for free...mine does

My clinic asked Asda to give me some starter needles (which I had to pay for) but I ordered the rest from ebay surgical suppliers.xx

The steroids you should be able to get anywhere, I just got mine from my clinic for £8 but the cheapest for all my meds was Asda

What are the steroids for? I’ve not heard of them in connection with IVF before?

It’s treatment for natural killer cells. Basically your body sees an embryo as a threat and kills it but the steroids stop it as the reduce your immune system.

Me neither!

I got my meds from Asda after a ring round of all my local chemists. Asda/Walmart sell them at cost price and don’t get any profit from them. Other chemists put a mark up which varies considerably.

Asda were pretty good and way cheaper than the pharmacy I would normally use. I had to get Lubion which they didnt have on the shelf but I would imagine they'll keep prednisolone. Give them a bell first and ask.xx

I'm using asda at the moment and have had no problems... Their suppliers shut at 6pm so you need to get prescription there before then if you want a next day delivery. Same applies to Saturdays xx

Hi guys

I went to Asda and got my prescription. I couldn't believe the price, £7!!! Compared to £78 at my clinic. Seriously, what the flying F?!?!

How can clinics justify this.

Fyi, Fertility2u was £43

Asda is running at a loss with its pharmacy but they keep it running for some reason. If only I knew about this when I bought my stimming drugs!
