Is weight a problem for private ivf clinics too or is it just NHS that prevents obese women from getting funding? I exceed the NHS BMI requirement so I was wondering if it is a good idea for me to go to a private ivf clinic instead? Or is being obese really a deterrent to a successful ivf?

Do private ivf clinic prevent obese women from treatment too?
I think it depends on the clinic. I could be wrong but from what I’ve seen private clinics seem to have a slightly higher threshold of 35 instead of 30. Xxx
Thanks Suzy, I guess I'd better hit the gym!
Good luck with everything and don’t forget everyone is here and will support you. This community is amazing. I lost 4 stone a couple of years ago before I got married in not a long amount of time to be honest. I used my fitness pal to work out my calories intake had a treat day every Friday where I ate whatever I wanted and started couch to 5k which I think really helped! I was so so unfit I had to repeat the first week 3 times but by the end of my weight loss journey I was jogging 10ks weekly which was just unthinkable at the beginning. I also made sure I walked my 10000 steps every day. Keep your eye on the goal of having a baby and I really believe you can do it. Wishing you all the best on your journey xxx
Hi
No, my private clinic never once mentioned my high BMI. All they were interested in was my AMH. My husband and I were fobbed off for five years by the NHS so we decided to go private and so far I am in the 2WW with 3 embryos on board. So the answer to your question is: No obesity is NOT a deterrent to getting pregnant, the only worry is the extra strain on your heart and body whilst carrying and giving birth. DON'T let ANYONE tell you otherwise.
Hi EdwardsSarah. Most private clinics seem to be more interested in hormone levels. Most do up the BMI level a bit, so do a search on hfea.gov.uk and see what's on offer. Good luck! Diane
At my clinic I had to have a BMI of below 35 if self funding and 30 for NHS funding. They said this would be pretty standard across most clinics. So we had a 6 month delay at the start so I could lose 2 stone! So frustrating but hopefully for the best anyway!
Hi ladies, quick update. Just realized private clinics here is UK are mixed when it comes to treating overweight women. They have varied requirements in terms of BMI. But one thing sure, getting in shape will help in the outcome! Even overseas clinics recommend weight loss too - I have this special liking to a clinic in Cyprus called Dunya IVF. So, starting on a diet and exercise routine! Who knows, I might qualify for NHS in time for an appointment!
