Vaping CBD and IVF

I don't know if anyone will be able to give a definitive answer to this as I know there is little research into the effects of vaping and even less into CBD, but I'll give it a go.

I have a chronic pain condition which has recently flared up with constant severe pain in my shoulder. I've been prescribed some strong codeine and paracetamol, but I'm trying not to take too much or too often as I know it has addictive effects and I know it's not a long term solution. When the pain is really bad I use a vape pen with CBD vape liquid. It's got no nicotine in, but I assume still has all the other chemicals of a normal vape liquid. I should also add, it's perfectly legal and was bought from a verified shop.

We're due to start IVF in a couple of weeks and I'm worried about the potential risks this may pose, however it is the only thing that is helping deal with the pain without medication.

TL;DR - Is vaping CBD (no nicotine) safe during IVF?

Hi.. probably best to speak to your clinic for the best answer..my gut feeling is they'll advise against it..but worth asking xo

I agree, it's unlikely there will have been any research done in to it so they'll probably just tell you to avoid it but worth asking. It must be tricky though having chronic pain during treatment. Hope you get the support you need x

Hi,

First off - it's exciting that you're due to start IVF in a few weeks time! I'm sure you're feeling a real mixture of emotions.

Sorry to read that you're suffering with chronic pain, that must be awful and I can't imagine how tough that is.

I can understand why you're struggling with this choice because it sounds like your pain relief is immediately important and as the other ladies mentioned, there isn't enough research specific to the impact of CBD on fertility/IVF. The only thing I felt valuable to add was that potentially the advice your clinic will offer could be dependent on your CCG/criteria for the fertility clinic. I'm unsure if you're with NHS or private but our CCG stipulates we both must be non-smokers (including e-cigarettes) for at least 3 months prior to treatment & continue to be smoke free throughout otherwise we risk having our funding revoked. This may not apply to you but thought it was worth mentioning, just in case!! Wishing you well 🍍 xx

Thank you all for your advice. We have an appointment at the clinic on Friday for our counselling session so I will ask then.

Pain management can be so difficult. You've probably tried everything but have u tried a TENS machine. I had 12 months unbearable pain from frozen shoulder. TENS was my way through. Hopefully you can get on top of this.
