Whats the typical rate of fertilized eggs that make it to day 5?

Hi ladies,

I've just had a call from our clinic to say that 8 out of my 12 eggs that were collected yesterday have fertilized. Such a relief! Im really pleased with that but being a natural worrier Im now wondering how many will make it to day 5.

Does anyone want to share their experience - good or bad - so that I keep it real and dont get too carried away. Been there done that many times with 6 IUIs so trying to keep a positive but realistic view of things now we've started IVF.

Congratulations, all going well so far.

I always obsess over stats. It’s 25% of fertilised eggs that usually make blastocyst.

This was true for my latest cycle.

12 fertilised eggs made 3 blastocysts.

However one of those blastocysts took until day 6 to make it.

Don’t let that put you off if it happens.

That day 6 blastocyst is now a baby in my belly x

We had 12 collected, 10 were mature, 7 fertilised with ICSI and we ended up with 4 blastocysts x

That's amazing, well done! All going well so far. I had 9 fertilised eggs, transferred 2 back on day 3 as they were worried about progress of the others, but in the end 2 made it to 5 day blastocysts and 1 to day 6. They froze all 3 and now I'm pregnant with twins (very early days) from a double FET with a day 5 and a day 6 blasto. Fingers crossed your little embies continue to grow and do well x

I heard that it’s about a 3rd on average. We had 17 collected, 13 fertilised and 4 made it to day 6 blastocyst stage and are now frozen. Initially when they called they said only 1 had made it (on day 5) but then another one later that day and 2 the following day. If they look like they are still dividing they will keep growing them until day 6. Xx

Hi. With our first cycle, I had 11 eggs retrieved, 10 were mature and 6 fertilised. 3 made it to day 5. I had 1 blast transferred and he’s now a lively little 2 year old. Currently going through a fresh cycle to try for number 2. Good luck! 😊

Hiya, thats brilliant! we had 15 collected, 3 werent mature enough and 4 didn't fertilize so were left with 8. Out of those 8, 6 made it to day 5 and now 1 of those is on board and we are in the 2ww. good luck with the rest of your cycle xx

I had 8 out of original 12 fertilize and 5 made it to day 5. Three are still in the freezer and one is sleeping in my lap. Best of luck with it hon xxx

Congrats that’s brilliant! Great news. So I had 10 collected, 8 fertilised and 4 made it to day 5. 1 is in and cooking nicely at six weeks and three are in the freezer! 2 were immature, 1 stopped developing and the rest weren’t of good enough quality to freeze. One of them was given to day 6 and made the grade thou! Good luck Hun xx

Scans leading up to retrieval showed 24 follicle. We had 20 collected, 16 were mature, 13 fertilized, 13 got to 3 day. 5 got to 5 day blastocyst and 4 got to 6 day blastocyst. We had those 9 blastocysts pgs tested and 6 came back normal (4x5 day blastocysts and 2 x 6 day blastocysts). Interestingly 2 of the top graded blastocysts came back abnormal when pgs tested so grading doesn't count for much...all the best!

I had 13 eggs collected, 12 fertilised and 7 made it to the day 5 this was my second fresh cycle. First cycle they just gave me the bar minimum drugs to get very small amount of eggs due to my age and i got 5 eggs, 5 fertilised and then only 2 made it to day 5. One of the second cycle blastocyst is currently a bub in my belly!!

I believe it’s partly to do with age. My consultant said the older you are the fewer they would expect to make the grade. My consultant said at age 35 40% are expected to make it.

At age 36 I had 9 fertilised eggs (11 mature ones collected) and 4 made it to day 5 (1 of those being frozen on day 6). Of those 4 blastos I have had 2 successful pregnancies, 1 chemical pregnancy and a BFN. Good luck with your cycle. I hope you get your longer for BFP.

I had 18 collected, and ended up with 9! So you can have good odds. The embryologist said that using best is 50% so hope you end up with that, if not more

Great news so far! We had 16 collected, all fertilised but only 5 made it to day 5. One fresh transfer which sadly ended in MC at 6 weeks and 1 FET which is currently keeping me awake pressing on my bladder 😂🤰🏽The stats we were given was to expect to lose 3/4 of our embryos along the way, this was exactly right for us as just over 1/4 of our 16 made it to day 5.
