After just about surviving the 2WW, we got the reading we had hoped for! First scan is still to come but I've tested everyday since test day, as I'm so scared, and it's been positive.
My issue is, I have extreme hayfever. I was on a 3 year treatment program which I've had to defer for the ivf and was also prescribed fexofendine (180) and Dymista. The clinic have said I'm not to take anything and have to deal with it. Obviously I dont want to do anything to compromise a potential life changing moment... however, I'm sneezing about 7-10 times in a row every few hours, my throat is so itchy I'm unable to sleep and my eyes are streaming. I'm petrified with every sneeze right now that I could damage my success.
Is there anything natural you would recommend that may help? I dont want to risk my bfp but this allergy is really disrupting everything. Thank you so much xx

Oh you poor thing, that sounds miserable! I'm lucky that I don't usually suffer from hay-fever, but I do have an allergy to one particular grass pollen and when that hits its pretty unbeatable without drugs so I can imagine what you're going through. I have found a cold pack on the eyes helps, cool showers and just staying indoors as much as possible. You may be able to get signed off work from your gp? Worth an ask? Don't worry about the sneezing though, your embryo is ticked away safely. I had an awful chest infection just after my BFP and was coughing so violently my tummy muscles were agony but it obviously didn't do any harm, I'm 11 weeks now. Really hope you get some relief, perhaps someone else will have a bright idea x
Thank you so much for describing it so beautifully. I never really imagined the embryo as being tucked away! You've given me some hope that everything may be ok. Thank you xx
I suffer with hayfever myself the chemist said there is a pollen mixture by a brand called nelsons you can get that is safe but they didn't have it in stock haven't tried it yet as i only asked today
I was looking into allergy relief that’s safe during pregnancy recently. I take cetirizine hydrochloride and I think that’s generally viewed as one of the safer ones. However, other non-medication options I’ve seen are saline nasal sprays and nasal filters. The filters are pretty expensive I think, but possibly worth a try! There’s some on Amazon I think 😊
I've emailed the local beekeepers association so fingers crossed I hear back from them. I have cooling eye patches but cucumbers sound even better! Thank you x
Yes local honey in your tea is known to help. I have transfer on Tuesday and have avoided taking any medication but yesterday my hayfever was off the scale. I was sneezing so much that it caused a migraine. In the end I took paracetamol and went to sleep. I don't use fenofaxadine or normal hayfever tablets because I think they aren't recommended
I find that ginger tea helps as it’s a natural antihistamine. Obviously don’t overdo it as ginger should be consumed in small amounts when pregnant. Also try to wash your face when you get back home and don’t dry clothes outside. A good air purifier could also help. Unfortunately the grass pollen is very high until July. Best wishes xxx
Morning, I’ve just started my first round but also suffer from allergies. My nurse at the clinic said that I can carry on taking the over the counter antihistamines and looking at the research online most doctors say they are fine to take but I would definitely go and see your gp, don’t suffer during this amazing time. Good luck and congratulations x
I was told that if you are feeling bad it is better to take them than suffering. When ttc it is better to leave it out though as the embryo uses histamin as a signal for sticking. Nasal sprays and eye drops are usually better than tablets since they work more local. I have Azelastin spray if it gets too bad. I got some cromoglucate one that did not help at all. Used to be on Fexofenadil tablets before ttc since the over the counter stuff does not work anymore for me. Keep in mind that most of the drugs are not recommended in pregnancy because there are not enough data and not because they are dangerous in pregnancy. You cannot really do clinical studies on pregnant humans So no panic! Hope you get through the hayfever season well!
Hey so sorry to hear that but I know all will go well with you. Here's a tip for the allergies boil up some water and put some sea salt in it and but ur head over in in a bowl or the sink with a towel over your head, so it will be like a steam. Hope this helps you. Sending you lots of prayers and positive vibes. ❤❤❤❤
Saline eye drops, and sterimar nasal (sea salt) spray is good. Local honey is supposed to help as well as vaseline around the nostrils. and if you're really suffering, the non drowsy antihistamines are considered safest in pregnancy - I saw my GP last week and she told me that. (I'm 23 weeks) maybe see you GP and see what they suggest? Xx
Prevention seems to be working best for me. Staying indoors air filter in the bedroom, house cleaned daily of dust, had carpets and upholstery cleaned, dog hosed down after every walk with the other half (he gets bathed regularly too), and keep windows shut. Shower, wash hair and change clothes after being outside. I'm using sterimar sea spray to clear my nose when ever I get sneezey! I wash my face regularly if I start to get sniffy and wipe down with a d as mp cloth. Exhausting but needs must! I also use haymax (beeswax based) before I go outside or cuddle the dog! Good luck - bloody summer!
