Long/short protocol

Hi guys,

Myself and my husband are brand new to this ! I’ve been reading a lot of you discuss long and short protocol and I’m wondering what I’ve been recommended to do? My AMH reading was very high so I’ve been advised to have any viable embryos frozen and transferred later when I naturally ovulate. I’m guessing this is the long one? They didn’t actually mention that I might not get any decent eggs/embryos so that has me a little stressed out already ! I don’t really know what I’m asking just looking for others who’ve had this.

I have relatively high AMH and my consultant opted for the short protocol. I believe it had to do with better potential to manage OHSS, and not needing to down-regulate in the long protocol in order to get stimulation. I have responded well both times on the short protocol. The long vs short has more to do with the stimulation process (long you down regulate before the stims start, short you start with your period in the cycle you plan to do IVF).

Here is a pretty good summary of different protocols I’ve found: haveababy.com/fertility-inf...

I believe freeze all and transfer can be done with any protocol, and sometimes it’s recommended if you over-respond to stims, so as to manage OHSS risk.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply!! It’s all very confusing. The consultant told us because it was so high that I was likely to over react to the stims and I’ve to wait for 2 periods before transfer in order to give my body a chance to calm. At least I think that’s what she was saying.

We are doing ICSI, as it’s male factor but I’m not sure if that has anything to do with anything.

Hi, I too have a high AMH and so they want me to have freeze all cycles. Like Peony85, I’m short protocol too because they said with a high AMH it’s better to let the body rest after all the drugs and then do a natural FET a month or 2 afterwards.

I’m just doing the short protocol now so can’t advise whether it’ll work or not x

This is what I’ve to do as well. I just assumed that was long because it’ll take long but I clearly don’t know what’s going on haha. When do you start ? I’ve just finished my period so the next one is when it will all start. Wishing you lots of luck. Xxxx

Thank you. I’ve already started, just finished the tablets to control period and then injections start on Wednesday. The short protocol only takes about 3 weeks, then egg transfer and then a few weeks off before FET. It all goes quite fast when you get started I think x

I hope so ! How long did you take the tablets for ? Xxx

18 days after my period I started taking the tablets. Had 9 days of them to control the next period. Came off them yesterday, and they said the scheduled period arrives within 4 days and then the injections start x
