This is probably a stupid question but I’m gonna ask it anyway as conflicting advice when I googled! I’ve been invited for my smear test and booked it in without thinking and that will be day 29 of my cycle. Is it safe to have your smear test at any point during your cycle or best to avoid the TWW?
Thanks

Hey, there’s so much conflicting advice out there about this! I ended up asking the nurse at our surgery (asked to speak to her over the phone) as I had done the same as you re the appointment, she told me it doesn’t matter when and that it was safe. But maybe ask yours what they think?
I know what you mean about conflicting advice! When I had mine last year, I was advised to book it roughly half way through my cycle. Although I think NHS website just recommends when you arent on your period and to avoid the days just before and after you bleed. When I told my Nurse I was TTC she was a bit reluctant to do it incase I was pregnant, but she did in the end as I explained I had been trying a while. I then saw another nurse about infertility and one of the things he checked was that I was up to date with my smear tests, so very conflicting! If you are worried, I would just call your surgery and see what their local protocol is. Xx
Last time I had my smear they asked me to rearrange my appointment as I was past ovulation but not close enough to period to test. They asked me to book after period and to abstain from unprotected sex until after my smear. Definitely get it done though as you need to be up to date for fertility treatments if needed xx
