Internal examination - 6 weeks pregnant

After many years of trying and numerous IVF cycles, I’m now 6 weeks pregnant. However yesterday I was having a lot of pain so went to hospital as I was scared it was ectopic. Fortunately we were able to see the heartbeat in the right place, and the pain has since stopped, but I’m now worrying that all the hard pressing down on my abdomen, along with the internal examination, has done some damage. I know this might sound silly but they were really quite rough, pressing down really hard on my womb area/ovaries etc. I’m so worried.

First of all congratulations. 🎉

I’m glad all is well with your baby ❤️

Also in pregnancy lots of ligaments are stretched as baby grows particularly the uterus.

Sometimes it can be because of bloating & that can feel like cramping.

I have had lots of cramps during this pregnancy & baby is fine, I’m coming up 19 weeks.

My midwife told me to expect period like cramps ( which I have) between 16-20 weeks as baby has a growth spurt & not to worry, unless it was accompanied with heavy bleeding.

The stretches, twinges/cramps means baby is growing & is a good thing ❤️

Rest assured baby is tucked away safely deep inside your pelvis which& that would not have done him or her any harm. A midwife said to me if a baby’s right there’s very little you can do to dislodge them & they are much tougher than you think! ( I worry a lot too!) You’re not being silly you are being a mum looking out for your baby nothing wrong with that ❤️

Not long to go get to book in to see a midwife & they are great for advice what they know more about babies/pregnancies than anyone ( other than an obstetrician!)

Early weeks are tough, try to take it one day at a time “ today I am pregnant tomorrow I might not be but today I am so I’ll be happy .“ ❤️

All the best with your pregnancy xoxo

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me, I seem to be constantly thinking of the next thing to worry about at the moment. Congrats on your pregnancy too xx

Hey just to say try not to worry. I have been having loads of cramps and pains and not always period but other stuff as well... ever since I got my BFP - I am 7 weeks today.

I had an internal scan on Weds and lots of poking and prodding and they warned me I might have spotting and discomfort. I didn't really spot but had terrible aches and pains yesterday... not period pains but shooting sharp pains... and they have finally calmed down 48 hours later.

As Jess says it will take a lot to get baby to shift!

Congrats on your pregnancy and try and stay calm xx

Thanks - there was a heartbeat - it calmed me down for about a day and now I’m all stressed again! I didn’t feel I could really post an update as there were so many sad news posts it felt really inappropriate! Thank you for thinking of me xx
