I do wonder (and I know its controversial to say this) if its worth having the NHS ?

In Europe everyone has health insurance and you don't have this postcode lottery of treatment. I mean you get idiots who argue IVF is a 'lifestyle' choice and other rubbish, but we have a postcode lottery for cancer treatment for goodness sake.

Our friends in France had the normal state health insurance and got 4 IVF goes, and 2 of those she was over 40, so am I missing something why the NHS is so great??

Some insurance doesn't cover IVF treatments.....my friends and family in Europe had this experience....which is also very wrong.

Xxx

Yes, it is. I have a few relatives in America and they have an awful system where some states have insurance that must cover IVF, and some states don't, which sounds a lot worse than what we have.

The trouble is the nhs so ingrained in our culture to have a free health service, no political party would have the guts to overhaul the system as it would be very unpopular if you forced everyone to have health insurance, even if it means a cheap state health insurance which would just take the money from your taxes, and the low waged and the unemployed would still get the same treatment, just as they do in France. Obama couldn't do it in America and they don't even have an nhs.

In some European countries there’s a huge choice of private doctors and clinics, which results in a ‘competition’ between them, which means much cheaper prices for customers. In Poland for example a round of IVF is about £1k!
