Well of course it is suitable if it is what you both want. Why don’t you go to an open day at a clinic near you to find out more?

Hi. I’m going through assisted conception at the moment. I’m 37 and my partner is 40. It’s the same referral process as anyone else. GP as first point of contact and they will refer you to your nearest service who will provide all the tests and details. You can access treatment on the NHS however if you’re using donor sperm you will need to cover the costs. You can see example costs for donor sperm on the European Sperm Bank website.

Hope this helps x

Do you have known fertility issues? If not then iui might be an easier option. It's certainly less expensive if that is a consideration

No I don't have fertility issues because I've had children before but I'm now with a new partner and we are both women and we would like to have a baby together

Well it sounds like iui with a sperm donor may well work. There's probably no need for you to go through the whole ivf procedure when simple insemination would probably work. I'm sure these options will be discussed if you make a clinic appointment.

Ok thank u for the information Cyantist x but partner wants to use her eggs to put inside me

Ah ok, that makes sense. Well in that case you should definitely try ivf. The only problem would be that at 45, her eggs are much less likely to work than yours and 45 is too old for any nhs funding.

Oh okay thanks :(

Definitely find a good sperm donor clinic ad talk to them. We had a brief look into this because it seems cheaper than using IVF clinics but that is more to do with my age (40) we haven't gone further down the road because deep down I want the child to be biolgically my husband's and we don't quaify for IVF under the NHS but from the little we did see, these clinics are great in screening sperm and all health issues and they also handle the legal aspects so the donor doesn't have any parental rights ectc and from what I can remember the costs start and at mere £2000
