Thoughts on going overseas

I'd like to hear from anyone who has had / is having treatment overseas. How do you plan the trips? How long do you have to stay? Do you have to take time off work, or do you time visits to fit in with your breaks/holidays? And do you buy medication back here in the UK (and if so, how much does it cost and who issues the prescription)? Have already phoned some local clinics here in NE England, but because they are essentially NHS clinics that also take private patients, paying through the nose makes no difference to the waiting time or the level of care. And after recent expereince with the NHS, I don't want to go anywhere near it... Now that I'm paying, I might as well buy something I want, eh? So, all feedback appreciated!

hey hun, my sis has had ED treatment abroad. She had a UK consultant that did all the tests and prescribed her medications and stuff and then she went abroad for the transfer. Her husband had to go to the clinic abroad first to leave his sperm and I think they went for 1 day each time. He travelled over and they picked him up from the airport and took him to the clinic and then he travelled back home that night but for the ET they both stayed over night just incase she was uncomfortable hopping straight back on the plane xx

Hi there, after three failed ivf’s in England using donor sperm, we have decided one last try and are doing embryo adoption. Ivf abroad is cheaper abroad but we wanted to be level headed and can’t afford to spend thousands upon thousands. This is why we’ve gone down this particular route and is only half the price. I did however want to visit the clinic and didn’t want to do everything over email so we flew over to Prague a few weeks ago to meet with the doctor and to discuss the procedure. They say you only really need a couple days over there (one for the scan to check the lining), next day embryo transfer. We are turning into a bit of a city break so I’m nice and relaxed for the few days after transfer.

I got my medication whilst I was over there (€50), now just got to wait for my next cycle, start taking the meds and on day 10 go for a scan over here to check my lining and report that to the clinic. Then between day 18 & 25 go back to Prague and have my transfer (doctor will advise me of the exact date that I need to be over there).

Not what you're looking for?
