Over Xmas my OH and I booked a holiday to Orlando Florida for the beginning of June. we didn’t expect this round of IVF to result in a positive and I know it’s still early days and anything can happen but now I’m worrying about travelling to America and taking my pessaries with me. Does anyone know if there are restrictions or what I need to do?

Congratulations! I travelled to America two days after getting my BFP. There weren’t really any issues with pessaries etc other than having to decide when I was taking them with regard to the time difference. Think I put them in hand luggage.

Might be best to check with your clinic though as mine made me take anti-clotting medication with me due to an increased risk of DVT whilst pregnant (as these were injections I had to take a letter from the clinic for airport security). The only other thing perhaps worth checking is about Zika virus. Don’t want to scare you as I know most of America was not an issue when I went but I thought Florida might have been slightly higher risk than other states? x

Excellent advice!! Was just about to mention Zika and antil blood clotting medication to protect pregnancy! I wish I had this information before I flew out to Barbados in my honeymoon 8 weeks pregnant. Also make sure to drink lots of water throughout the flight (helps prevent clotting too) wear flight socks and rotate ankles and raise heels up and down) xxx

Thank you for the reply, I didn’t even think of DVT but I have my scan on Monday so I will mention it then and go from there. Hopefully all is well and we can still travel x

Hi Beauty1984, firstly congratulations! As for traveling with medication it shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve been traveling with my injections, pessaries and estrogen tablets and never had a problem. Just be sure to have a letter from your doctor with indicating you require them. Lastly, be sure to keep them in your travel luggage in the event your checked bagged is lost or delayed etc. Enjoy your holiday xx
