Out of breathe 😱😱

So I only have 8 weeks left before my miricke baby arrives but past few days I have started to feel out of breathe a lot. Today had been really bad . Went to bed this morning as I thought it may help if I'm just lying down but nop . So sat up for few hours and still feel the same . Have asked mr google and it states that the uterus will be pressing on lungs which would cause this from 31 weeks . I just wanted to know if anyone out there had any advice just to relieve these symptoms as it is worrying me lots and I feel so uncomfortable 😣

Sorry to read this. I have just 4 weeks to go until I am due and I also find myself breathless. Ask your midwife/gp for advice on this but tbh it is likely just the strain of pregnancy on your lungs. I am anaemic so I know that is partly causing me to feel breathless. Check with your midwife to be on safe side you aren't anaemic too. Position of baby can also cause breathless. When baby drops more into your pelvis in a few weeks perhaps you may feel more able to breathe easily. Hope this helps. Take care. Xo

Thank you for your reply . Yeah spoke to my midwife but to be honest she just said she does t know . I have had 2x glucose test and blood test and they said I wasn't anemic but have been taken iron tablets for over a month now 😱😱. I just felt so out of breath today I was worried but will just have to ride the storm I guess . Good luck for the arrival of your little one in a couple of weeks xxxx

It is scary. Rest plenty when you can. Don't do too much or let yourself get too warm. I did an active antenatal class recently which centred on gentle pregnancy yoga. I found it relaxing and actually helped with my breathlessness a bit. Maybe worth looking into! Hope you feel bit better. All the very best for the exciting arrival of your little one. Congratulations as well. It is just a real blessing isn't it. Xo

I am getting that a bit quite early on! I find being upright generally best but when I need to lie down, raising my arms seems to help get a bit more air in my lungs. Hope it passes quickly and good luck with everything xxx

I am pregnant with twins, breathlessness started at slightly in my fifth month. It’s not yet too bad but if I talk like presenting something at work I become breathless. I can walk no problem but sometimes have to stop to catch my breath. My iron is .2 points below minimum so not too bad but now I am on high iron tabs.

I’m 31 weeks and finding I’m suffering with breathlessness I’m just trying to take it easy and go at snail pace - frustrating when your used to being so active x

If you are finding the breathlessness very bothersome ie it is stopping you sleeping, or you are not able to do regular tasks ie washing, dressing, gentle walking etc then I would advise getting checked out by an Obstetrician.

It is normal to get a bit breathless but you shouldn’t be so breathless it is impeding your normal activities.

There are other causes of breathlessness in pregnancy than the baby’s pressure and anaemia. Best to get checked out. I would definitely recommend it.

Ps I’m a hospital doctor who works with pregnant women regularly xx

Thank you for getting intouch . It's been going on for a few months but yesterday was really bad . I've had blood test and everything is fine . They just keep telling me it's just part of being pregnant . I get out to f breath just sitting still but still being told everything is fine . Just don't know what else to do 😱

One of the things that won’t necessarily be picked up by a blood test is if the breathlessness is related to your heart or if it is related to a blood clot.

Some women in pregnancy can have temporary changes in their heart due to the pregnancy.

Both the above conditions need special scans that can only be done in a hospital.

For me personally, I think it is not normal for you to be so breathless just sitting.

What’s your nearest hospital out of interest?? Xx

Yes, definitely do that. And ask them if they think it’s your heart or a blood clot. That will get them thinking! Message me if they won’t listen xx

Thank you so much . Will definetly let you know how I get on x

If you are significantly shorter of breath and it’s quite a sudden change you should attend your maternity day unit or A&E. When you are pregnant you are at a slightly higher risk of blood clots so better to be safe than sorry. If it has been a gradual change and more tiredness than more likely to be changes related to pregnancy. Good luck xx
