No embryos 😞

Got the call this morning that after collecting 6 eggs yesterday none have fertilised. I am heartbroken don’t know why. Has this happened to anyone else? Xx

I am so sorry... Did they tell you whether they were mature? If not they wouldn't fetilise.

Also, were they trying ICSI?

They said 3 were mature and yes it was ICSI x

I am afraid I don't know... 😔 Could be simply bad luck or perhaps some issue either with the sperm or eggs. I have a friend doing IVF Who just turned 40. She had 21 eggs (!) but only 12 fertilised, and she was told that fertilisation decreases with age. Recently I also knew of somebody in this forum Who had 0 fertilisation first and discovered It was some protein absent in the sperm. Just by adding something in the medium she had almost 100% in their second attempt. Do you have a follow Up appointment?

We had 6 eggs last week. Because they were few they did ICSI with 5 and 4 fertilised... That's my only experience.

Hopefully they will be able to explain...

They just called back to say it’s not my eggs or sperm it’s just bad luck 😞 we only had 3 eggs mature enough to go off so chances very low. Problem is we are in Manchester so only get one round on nhs. Good luck xx

Yes that happened to us. We had 8 nature’s eggs, did IVF (not Icsi) and zero fertilised. I know what you’re going through. I’m send you a PM but you should also read back through my posts. I’m so sorry to hear this. You feel robbed of even getting a chance to make it to transfer.

And I agree -it should count as a round as it’s essentially ’cancelled’ and hope you can fight for another round. I was on NHs in Scotland and a round ends when you use up your embryos. You did have embryos so it wouldn’t count. My first one with zero fertilisation didn’t count as one of the paid rounds we are entitled. There was another post about this recently. Best of luck

I'm so sorry Claire hope you are ok. We had 4 eggs and only 1 fertilised but they didn't give a reason as to why the rest didn't. I can only imagine what your going through. Big hugs xxx

Oh hun, I'm so sorry! I had nothing to transfer on my first round but for other reasons....was devastated. Didn't even know that could even happen. Sending hugs.

It may just be down to numbers but I did see that a girl had this happen to her a while ago....0/8 didn't fertilise. I think her user name was abcgirl . Perhaps she can help?! Might not be the same but might be able to give you some guidance. Also write down lots of questions to ask your dr at your follow up appt & see if you can speak to your embryologist too.xx

Claire I am so sorry, so disappointing when you go through all the motions mentally and physically in. Alot can b learned by the clinics by a first cycle tho, nearly like a test run. I had icsi aswell and on my first cycle 4 eggs collected only 3 mature and only 2 fertilised which resulted in a cp. I'm currently on 2nd round private and had stronger injections and for longer, iv been taking wellman conception as is hubby ( the men's one) and dhea. I had 6 collected this time a year older.....and 6 mature, granted only 3 fertilised. Just take time out and wen u both feel ready to go again and get your review you could get a more successful cycle. Xx

I'm in the exact same position. 3 mature eggs and no fertilisation with ISCI. Have you had your follow up appt? Manchester do an add on procedure called artificial oocyte activation (AOA) which can sometimes help in these situations. I'm looking into it now.
