Hi Lucy. I think it really depends on the tests you've had and the results. Have you had a transvaginal ultrasound and hycosy yet? If not, it's worth asking for both as bloods and SA will only give you half the picture.

If all of your normal tests are withing the "normal" range, ask whereabouts. Definitely get a copy of all of your results. A lot of us get told it'

Sorry, message sent before I'd finished!

A lot of us get told it's unexplained infertility, even when we have very obvious symptoms of a problem. It took 11 months and a second referral for my symptoms to be "recognised". Unfortunately unexplained is incredibly frustrating, though you do have a better chance of conceiving before IVF if you are in agreement that there's nothing obvious wrong. But you will probably be signed off until over reached the key 2 years for your IVF referral.

If there are problems within your results, get the specialist to outline the next steps and what monitoring you'll have in the meantime. Meds and a 6 months check up aren't uncommon but not helpful when the meds don't work on the first or second use. Ask what happens in that instance and what care there may be for you if that happens.

Most of all, good luck. I hope everything is OK and it all works out for you soon xx

Thank you so much for your response sorry I am so late in replying

We had our appointment yesterday and all went well we are due to start our first cycle in the next 3/4 months

Luckily for us the doctor was really helpful and answered any questions we wanted the answers to before we even asked

So all very exciting but still trying to stay grounded at the same time

How far are you into the process if you don't mind me asking

Thanks

Lucy xxx

That's very exciting, congratulations! How did you get on with your test results? If you don't mind me asking?

We went to request our IVF referral in December and got pregnant a few days later! I'd love to say it was because we had relaxed as things were moving forward, but that would be a load of rubbish!! We got pregnant because of a combination of better sperm preparation, significant illness at time of implantation, and most importantly because I was finally given the cyclogest I needed to sustain a pregnancy. We are still very early days so keeping everything crossed that we make it past the 12 week mark and through coming off the cyclogest.

Wishing you the best of luck for the next few months and your first cycle x

I think if you email Diane the fertility uk nurse she will send you a list of questions xx
