Hey guys! Just wondered what your experiences have been with work when going through ivf. Have all been generally supportive with the appointments and treatment that needed. Haven't advised work yet but will be this week & what now unsure what I need to say and what if any time off I may need. Any thoughts guys? Thank you in advance 😊

Work and ivf
I only told my work colleague but she's also my friend, I just booked the scans & et off as holiday,
then I booked 2 weeks off as holiday for after ET as I choose not to work this cycle,
You don't have to tell them unless you want to. Lucky I had lots of holiday that I carried over from last year x
I told my boss and she was amazing and supportive. I wouldn't have been able to do it without telling her as some of my appointments changed last minute so needed the flexibility. She was also great when I had a complete melt down around the second scan and made me go home to rest and relax x
I think if you have a good relationship with your manager it's a good idea if you can tell them. As Jacs0008 says sometimes apt can change or you could need extra scans, if they know if advance it takes the pressure off you having to think of excuses as to why you need time off x
Thank you both yep that all sounds good advice n yeah especially with the changes. Didn't think about that so thank you😊 just hope my work will be understanding. Think will be but yeah the not knowing at the moment does not help in knowing how to approach it but guess will take every day as it comes 😊
I spoke to all my bosses about it and they have been supportive with time off. I either make up the time, take sick leave or annual leave
Hi! I'm only going through initial testing have couple more before we get the go ahead to apply for ivf funding but my work have been amazingly supportive! I also rang my hr department to see what I was entitled to with regards to time off and it was all managements discretion but they do give 2 weeks off when I undergo treatment as part of the policy. It was hard sitting down and having the first conversation out loud with my manager as he's a man but felt like a weight had been lifted once it was out! Good luck and hope they're as supportive as mine has been! xx
My work has an IVF policy with 5 days allowed in the first year of IVF treatment. I was able to fit most scan appointments around work. My manager had had IUI so had an idea of what it was like to go through treatment and agreed time off as I needed it.
I suppose it depends on if your company has a policy, your relationship with your manager, whether you want to share that you're having treatment to etc. You could be a bit vague and say medical issues.
I work at a high school. Luckily, my doctor took her first appointment at 7:30 in the morning. I was always the first one there. I have a good team mate that covers. I was ok earlier that week, but towards the end, I was there every morning. Make sure you take the day off and probably the day afterwards for your egg retrieval. As far as the egg transfer, I was able to go back to work and felt great.
Thank you all for your support and advice. I was very nervous about telling work but I told my manager yesterday. She was so supportive and pleased for us. Totally better than I thought. She is also happy for me to take toil when needed and sick leave as needed!! No horrid top managers need to know either , phew. Thank you again. Am relieved ☺️
