Injecting at work.

So next week will hopefully be the beginning of my injections. My clinic asks for me to do the injections between 9pm and 10pm. I was hoping to do these around 915pm as my husband will be home, as I have a needle phobia, just looking at them in the box makes my feel funny.

My main issue is work. My shop doesn't close while half nine and as a manager I close down 2-3 times a week

I don't feel comfortable with doing my injections at work as I will have to take all my equipment with me and also I won't have my husband with me to do the injection if I can't. He's not allowed behind the counter and am not allowed out onto the shop floor for security reasons (I work in a bookmakers). I lone work also so if i have customers in the shop i wouldnt be able to do the injections as I need to be able to see the shop floor etc.

I want to contact my district manager and try and change my shift pattern but unsure of how to explain my situation. He is aware of my ivf treatment and knew it was coming up. Any advice most welcome

Hey, I totally understand why you wouldn't want to do your injections at work. I had to do a couple at work on my 3rd cycle and always felt like I was rushing it.

As your manager is already aware perhaps you could just explain about the timings of your injections and the importance of need the support of your husband during them. This a hard journey emotionally and physically without the added pressure of not being able do the injections in your own home.

Hopefully as you'll only be asking for temporary shift changes they'll understand, good luck for both speaking to your manager and beginning your injections next week xx

What time do you actually get home after a late shift? You might be better to do them afterwards. After all you might be going to be asking for work favours regarding time off for EC/ET so you might not want to have more favours.

Incidentally, I did mine in a half hour window of the course of my cycle and it was fine. By the end I was on three different injections so they couldn't all be done at exactly the same time each day. I did find it annoying staying up for them sometimes but it is much nicer doing them at home! X

I don't normally get home until 10pm when I close the shop but my husband will already be out of the house, Starts work at 10pm.

I'm a chicken so doubt I will be able to do them myself.

In which case I would ask your clinic how important it is to do a 9-10pm time slot. Mine didn't specify, they just told me most women prefer to to it in the evening, and I know other people inject in the morning as it works better for them. Your clinic might say something different if you explain how complicated it's going to be to do that time slot.

Ps I'm like emu, injecting all over the place, including service stations, my car, restaurant toilets and other people's living rooms. It's ok unless you need to mix drugs, then it's a bit of a pain!

I'd look at at doing them later.... to ensure you're home. If it's stressing you out so much then it wouldn't be good for you to be doing them at work stressing or worrying if you can change shifts.

I was very much like you in my first cycle. It was a nightmare. I think you have to do it and experience it yourself before you can make the change yourself but in this cycle I was determined (well my husband was) that we wouldn't be held of a barrel by our treatment and would get on with life... if I told you I injected in the toilets of a football stadium; in a pub 300 miles from home; a restaurant 300 miles from home and my mother-in-laws bathroom ... I imagine it'd bring you out in a cold sweat. I'm not telling you to do this... but I want to tell you that not letting this determine your life is important for relaxing. So if injecting at 11 is better for you as you'll always be home. Do it then xx

My clinic doesn't specify a time. Just that injections must be X number of hours apart. While stimming I did 7pm and 9pm and while down regulating for fet I did 5pm. Perhaps they can be a bit more flexible on the times? It's so odd how different clinics have different rules X

When I went through the first cycle the clinic told me it would be better to take the injection in the evening but only because it would get me used to taking injection at night. Once you are confirmed for EGG collection you have to take that injection at a specific time of night so if you were used to taking injection anyway at night then you wouldn't forget (as if we would ever forget something like that)!!

Thanks for all the advice. I emailed my boss this morning to see if it was possible to swap some shifts. It only effects 2 days so hopefully they will be able to do something for me xxx
