Had a phone call today to tell me we wouldn't have a 3 day transfer but it will be Monday (day 5). No one has explained to me the difference if it's a good thing or bad thing and I was wondering if anyone could give me more information about the differences .
Thanks

5 day transfers mean that your embryos have got more cells for example got to the blastocyst stage, the more cells the embyro as the better change of the embyro carrying on developing in the womb, this doesn't mean that embyros with smaller cells dont turn into successful pregnancy because some with smaller cells still do develop into a good healthy pregnancy, all depends on the quality of the embyro, another reason for a 5 day transfer may mean that all your embyros are growing at a similar stage so they are Strugglig to pick out the best ones for et and for freezing sometimes they just need a few more days to pick the best embyros, good luck xxxx
They should have explained this properly to you! I was given an information leaflet at one of my early appointments explaining the differences and one of the nurses went through it all with me. And don't be afraid to ask them in more detail if you are unsure of anything - I feel like I've had a hotline to my clinic at this stage 😊
For me, I only had 4 eggs collected, 3 of which fertilised. By day 3 all looked the same so the only way to differentiate was to take them to day 5, so they could see further cell division. By day 5, 2 looked good and the 3rd had slowed. They transferred the 2 good ones and left the other to develop for a further day but it didn't survive. So this is a good reason to go to blastocyst - they can tell which will be a good survivor at that stage. When I got the call on day 3, my first instinct was to say get them back in me but I'm glad I waited now. So, nothing to worry about, the good ones will make it to day 5!
Thanks for your reply has made me feel a little more confident. At no point has the doctor or nurse spoken to me and my husband about the transfer days and the difference between day 3 and 5 or the difference in an embryo or a blastocyst embryo, this whole process no one has taken the time to go through the process and what's good or bad so I feel a little like I'm lost.
The other good thing about blastocyst is the extra couple of days you get for your body to recover. I definitely felt way better at 5 days than I did at 3, so you may well feel more prepared for it by then too. My clinic didn't check the embryos at day 4, as this is a critical stage in their development, so the clinic probably won't call you again until transfer day. They say you can go right back to work but most people will take a few days off, so that you feel you have given yourself the best possible chance at success.
Best of luck for Monday, hope you get some nice blastocysts.
It's good news. If they can survive to 5 days then they are considered better quality than 2-3 day, the cells have divided up more, into a blastocyst. So however many make it to 5 days will be the best ones and give you the best chance.
As well as what the other ladies have told you, another thing is that in a natural cycle, an embryo at day 3 is still traveling down the fallopian tube, whereas day 5 it's in the uterus...so in theory a day 5 is going back to the right place
Ou usually have a 5dt where there are a number of good 3 day embryos. Waiting to day 5 means the clinic has more time to watch them develop and ensure the 'best' embryo is out back in. So, I would say it's a pretty good sign if your clinic are going down this route.
We had a 5dt and I am now 24 weeks pregnant. We also have 3 frozen which we hope to use in the future.
