There was an article in the paper about IVF on the NHS and it was pointed out that of all the London boroughs only 1 gives the recommended 3 rounds (Camden), islington offers 2, and the rest of the boroughs offer just one round. I think it was emphasising the NHS postcode lottery...

Hi, don't believe everything you read I live in Waltham Forest and they
Sorry post submitted before I'd finished! I live in Waltham Forest and they offer 3 cycles on the nhs as long as you meet the criteria. So it may be lazy journalism, as I'm sure there a few more that offer 3 like Barking and Dagenham.
We lived in both Lewisham and Greenwich boroughs. Only 1 round offered. Thought it unfair as my friend in Camden got 3 despite barely meeting criteria and me and hubby met every criteria from day one. My clinic said there was nothing we could do about it, except consider moving to a better borough! Too late for us now. We self funded and succeeded.
Agree completely film girl..
It should be the same throughout every county.. Then whatever the criteria is it would at least feel fair..
We were refused nhs funding as I have a child from a previous relationship.. My husband is not yet a father.. It seems cruel to deny him the right to be a father... Yet 2 county's near me literally a few miles either side would allow nhs funding and value my husbands right to be a father..
If we didn't have the option if egg sharing we'd be stuffed .. There's no way we could afford ivf.. The private clinic have been great and have been most through.. And I have faith that will get me pregnant
Great news that your self funded ivf worked annoying that you had to pay for it..
X
The whole funding system is unfair, but at least your money was well spent so congratulations.
I liveHavering and I am eligible for 3 rounds. All my fertility testing was done at Queens Hospital but my ivf will be at Homerton in London.
I was due to have ivf in July but I had an ectopic in January gone so I wasn't feeling ready and was able to postpone until January 2015.
The waiting list after referral was 9 months which is good. I do feel very lucky that I live in an area that will provide the maximum 3 rounds xx
The postcode lottery is awful we live in Cornwall and we only had 1 free go then had to pay just under 5k!
Ours was £5500... Took 6 goes and 7 years of overtime to pay for it. Was worth it in the end, but yep 1 go on the NHS and we didn't even get to the embryo transfer stage!
All boroughs are governed by a different Clinical Commissioning Group by the sounds of it. I work for the NHS (not fertility related) and it is crazy that each CCG has different criteria, personally I think it is extremely unfair. Sure enough, have criteria (eg BMI, non-smoking, minimum ttc time) but the amount if courses and criteria should be uniform. Luckily hubby and I fall under a CCG who offer 3 courses but we have had to make some real life changes to qualify. I really hope that all couples having only 1 course manage to conceive. Good luck everyone xx
