Retroverted Uterus - ultrasound

Hi there

Any ladies with a retroverted uterus able to tell me when they will be able to see my baby on an ultrasound? I’m 7 weeks + 1 and the pregnancy has been picked up on a transvaginal ultrasound, but the nurse said it will take some time to scan with ultrasound sound on my tummy as the baby is further away. I would like to book a private scan at 10 weeks but don’t want to waste money/cause stress if that would be too soon ?

TIA

Mine is anteverted so not sure how helpful this is, but the first abdominal scan I had wasn’t until week 11+3 so I wouldn’t book it before then. Even at 11+6 I had a private nuchal scan and they had to use both abdominal and transvaginal to get all the measurements. But since the 12+6 scan I’ve never had a transvaginal scan again.

Hi there, that is helpful. I will hold off till I’m a bit further on I think. X

I have a retroverted uterus too, so at my 10 weeks scan I opted to have it done transvaginally though they said it could be done abdominally at that stage (I had a missed miscarriage diagnosed on a scan at 11 weeks so I was a bit traumatised by the experience). My 12 week scan was done abdominally and there were no issues as I think my uterus had started to move up by this stage. Wishing you all the best

Hi Ctk, sorry to hear about your loss. That must of been heartbreaking 💔. I think I will wait till after 12 weeks then at least I have more chance of seeing something x

Hi, I have retroverted uterus and I was able to see my baby through tummy ultrasound at 7w6d pregnant without any issues.

Oh really, that’s interesting to know. I might ask what they think at the place I want to go for a scan x

I asked at EPU because they were the ones who scanned me through the tummy so early and they said that basically from 8weeks it's a standard now even with retroverted uterus. You just need to have full bladder so early so it can make it easier to see

Thanks Glaedy I have booked a scan in for 8week +3. I had a scan at epu at 7 weeks and they couldn’t see anything until I had the vaginal one. The place I’m going for private said if they struggle at my appointment they will book another free of charge

Yes, at 7 weeks it would be too early for tummy one, but 8+3 should be ok but it also depends on the equipment they are using etc.
