baby Girl names

hi Ladies.

I was surprised not to find one post with baby names here. Hope it’s allowed here ?

I’m very happy to be expecting a baby girl.

It’s been a long journey and I never seriously thought about the names as I was too focused on getting here and not wanting to get hopes up!

I have a few names we both like in order

Lottie 💖

Lily 💖

Gracie 💖

Margo 💖

We have been calling her Lottie, we both love that name and want to use it on its own. I personally disagree but someone has said to me it might be too cutsie for a grown woman.

Also she might not look like Lottie so we have a few back ups.

Wondered if any already mums here always knew the name, decided whilst pregnant, or after they met their babies 😁

also to pregnant ladies - have you already picked the names and what are they ?

💖

All lovely names! I wonder if Grace is more elegant than Gracie, and allows room for Gracie to be her nickname?

One thing that swayed my choice of baby name was whether it was in the top 40 or so names in the U.K. I didn’t want my little girl to be one of several in her class. If you’re thinking that way, you may want to avoid Lily (it’s number 4, I think) - although it makes a lovely middle name (I’m biased as my little girl is called Mina Lily 🫠). My personal favourite is Margo, unusual and chic somehow, as ours was very nearly a Margo, but alas, it was a battle I lost!

Ps we decided before hand as there was only really one name we agreed on! Plus it seemed to fit her when she arrived

Thanks for your reply 😁 it’s much harder than it seems isn’t it?

I love Grace but my husband doesn’t which is why we are compromising on Gracie but it’s unlikely this is the one we will pick.

Yes I’m the same I would like quite original name but not too rare too so people know how to spell it!

I like Margo but it’s another one my husband doesn’t like ! 😣 I will try again 😝 he seems really set on Lottie! (Lottie - Emily)

When did you make a decision on Mina Lily? Did you have to meet her to decide or did you have your name picked? Lovely name 👌

We decided in advance. Both my grandmas were Lily, so I’d always wanted to use that, and then as a mixed race couple (I’m white British and my husband is Pakistani) we needed a name that worked across cultures. Fortuitously, one of the main meanings of Mina is “azure” or “blue glass” (the other main one is “love”) and she has surprised us by inheriting my blue eyes, despite it being a recessive gene

Hi and congratulations on your pregnancy! Choosing a name is hard...I bought a few name books whilst pregnant to get some ideas and learn about the origins and meanings of different names. We also used an app to create our own lists of names and find matches. In the end we came up with a list of around 5 names and decided to wait and meet our daughter before choosing one. It was good that we did because my then favourite name really didn't suit her whereas the one on the top of my husband's list was perfect. We added a second name too, also from our list. Good luck!

Thanks 💖 I’ve spoken to the hubby and we are going to do the same. Will have a back up list of names and we will decide once we meet her which one suits her best. It’s so exciting 🤩🤩

I love Lottie but my hubby wasnt a fan. There was a Gracie and 2 Margot in my antenatal group so I think they are quite popular now where I stay xxx

Hi, I'm expecting a little boy and we are planning on using the name Ethan or Tyler, his middle name will be Robert because that's my fiancees name, so his name will either be Ethan Robert or Tyler Robert one of those names will definitely be his name❤️

Lottie is a lovely name!

I’ve always had Minnie picked out for a girls name, but I love Lila/ Lena/ Raven too.

For a boy we have Ozzy (Oscar) top of our list. We are big metal music fans, so it was the obvious choice 😆

I love Ozzy 😁 both a name and the artist 👌

We’ve even planned to put pictures of Ozzy and a few other bands up in the baby’s room. Might as well educate them young 🤣

My advice would be not to tell people your choices. There is always people that don't like it, have a cousin called it, associate a person with it etc. If you and your husband like it go with it. We had 2 names picked but told nobody. When she was born my husband said straight away what she looked like.I have just had my second and told my sister ahead of the birth the only boy names we liked. She said that there is a few people at work called it and she wasn't really a fan. I felt really deflated as it was the only name me and hubby liked. However we called him it, and we like it so that is all that matters!

I love Lottie! And it’s less common than your other 3.

I’m a Charlotte and have always been a Charlie and still am, but I have known a few Lottie’s and at least one of them is a lawyer now and still goes by Lottie! I don’t think it’s too cutesie at all. If you were worried you could always name her Charlotte and then just call her Lottie. But I really don’t think you need to worry about it.

Congratulations! I’m expecting a boy and finding it so so hard to pick a name!

It’s lovely you’ve got your list together. I am toying with names, what I found quite helpful is that the app Pregnancy + has a list of girls and boys names from different nationalities and it’s a good place to get ideas as well. X

How far are you? ☺️ I follow few accounts on Instagram and new names keep popping up. Do you know if you’re having a boy or a girl ? Have you got any favourite names ? Xx

love those names. I’m having a girl and we have decided on 3 on our shortlist, but it’s so hard to know until they appear 💕 our faves are;

Poppy

Isla

Ava

I’m 39wks today so hoping to meet little lady soon. We’re keeping them a secret too as I don’t want opinions from people. I think avoiding the top 40 is a good idea too, something I’m conscious of. I would go with the longer version of the name officially then shorten it e.g. Charlotte, but that’s my personal opinion xxx

Ggg555 profile image
Ggg555 in reply to Bexarama83

Nothing against Charlotte it’s a lovely name but we like Lottie on its own, it’s a French name separate to Charlotte. I love Poppy, Isla and Ava 😍 all of these names were on my shortlist, all beautiful names 💖 good luck and hope you meet your baby girl soon 💖

I wouldn’t listen to what anyone else says, if you both love the name, that’s all that matters. You don’t have to please anyone else. And I would never say to someone that I hate the name they’re chosen! That’s rude. We all have different taste. I do think Lottie is a lovely name tho. I don’t believe you can look like your name either, but that’s my personal opinion.

We chose Ruby for our little girl, and never swayed from that. I was aware it’s quite a popular name and is definitely in the top 40 girls names, but it was my grandmas name, so it was always very special. We also decided to give her two middle names, both our mums first names. We love it, and from the moment we were told we were having a girl, she was Ruby Diana Jane x x

I didn’t know what I was having so had a name for each.

For a boy we had Jude and for a girl we had Orla, a week before I have birth I mentioned the name Dollie to my partner as it was my great Nans name! We both fell in love with it.

I had a girl and she suits her name so much. We didn’t tell anyone we’d changed our minds and when everyone met her they agreed Dollie is perfect for her♥️

Wishing you a healthy smooth delivery of your princess🩷

hi darling congratulations on your baby girl!

I Personally think that the reason there were no post for baby names is that I see this forum as a support network for people going through difficult times, share advice on challenging situations etc so some may find it unsettling. Although others may disagree.

Having said that it’s refreshing to see such a happy topic.

Wishing a wonderful rest of the pregnancy x

Hello, my advice is to go with your gut regardless of what others say. I come from a culture where the meaning of a name is important. I also did not want to know the sex of the baby beforehand so a name that was gender neutral was top of my list. I also wanted something unique. We went for Micah and we picked it way before she was even an embryo because it summarised our journey perfectly. People mispronounce it all the time but once I tell them the story of how she was born ( if I can be bothered), they never get it wrong again.

Like you I worried about her not liking it but I do not worry about it now. I think just telling why she and her name means so much will definitely sell it.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Xxx

Years ago I decided that if I ever had a girl, I'd want to name her in memory of my mum. Her first name was Eleanor but she didn't like it and I'm not a fan either, and her middle names were Catherine Anne. She was always known as Anne. I'm now 27 weeks pregnant with our daughter and it's looking likely that she'll be Elise Catherine Anne. We wanted a name that started with E, and she will actually be called that name ... or Ellie, or Ells, or Ellie Belle...

I love a names conversation!

I echo some people’s opinion above to not share the name with others as if you love a name, you don’t want it tainted or to put off by those who have a strong opinion on names! I kept our twins names a secret as I knew that there would be divided opinion (and that was proven when they were born!).

Originally, they were Flynn and Orláith and then we changed our minds on Orláith when I heard someone pronounce it with a deep Yorkshire accent and it put me off (😂 - I’m Yorkshire too so I was like hmm, maybe that’s how it’ll sound when I say it). Anyway, my husband woke one morning and said “what about Mason” and I just loved it. He’s referred to as Masey (and a few other nicknames I’m sure he won’t carry into adulthood 😂) and my little girl is Blair Rose Marilyn. Rose and Marilyn are family names, Blair I dreamt off randomly and we both just felt it was right and perfectly paired with Masey.

For a long while after she was born, my in-laws referred to her as Rosie which was a little annoying (they didn’t like Blair). Anyway, 20 months on, she’s referred to as Bella Bee as the Italians (in laws side) when we were visiting kept referring to her as that and it’s kinda stuck on that side of the family! In mine, she’s known as “Bee” 🤍

If you love a name, go for it and don’t let anyone put you off! I can’t imagine mine being any different now! I’ve even my next baby girls and boys name picked out if we are lucky to have another 🫶🏻 Xx

Heyy hun. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I had a name in my mind while I was pregnant and i think I somehow had made up my mind despite looking into other names. I tried making a list but None of the other names were really like the one i had chosen in my mind. Her name is Delara. It has Persian origins and means adorning the heart ❤️ She is really our joy and definitely the warmth of our life and the name suits her more as she grows up 🥰 My advice to you is not to talk to many people about what you like because people can’t keep their opinions to themselves . xxx

It's up to you of course, but giving the full name of Charlotte (also a lovely name) gives them options. You can still always call them Lottie! I know Lottie's who never go by Charlotte, but it is their name. Gives them the choice. All your name choices are lovely. 💖

Thank you 💖💖 Charlotte is not for us. I love Lottie as a full name. Will still see if it suits when we meet her 🥰
