I'm 22+2 and eagerly awaiting feeling the first kicks!
I have an anterior placenta so have been told this might not be until week 24, but have had a few different feelings in the last few days... Sometimes a flicking feeling near my ribs, sometimes bubbling and sometimes just a bit of a zapping feeling in my stomach.
All have felt different, with different intensities and not regular at all. I'm not sure if it's baby kicking or just a case of trapped wind!!
Will I know for sure when I feel a kick?
Any experiences to share most appreciated
Thanks a lot xx

My first had an anterior placenta and I wasn’t sure what was a kick until about 24w. The funny sensations just get stronger, then turn into tapping, then you’re like ‘oh yeah that was a kick’. It does become more obvious over time-it’s a gradual change. It’s nervewracking at the start as they come and go, so you start to worry the baby isn’t moving, but they get more frequent with time. Obviously if you do get worried at any point call your maternity unit immediately. They are very used to worried mums and would far rather you bothered them unnecessarily than left it xx
Thanks for coming back to me, that's a great insight Yes they've told me if I haven't felt anything by 24 weeks to let them know so I will do just that x
heya I’m si millar to you, 21+1 with an anterior placenta, but this is my second and had an anterior placenta in my first pregnancy too.
All those sensations of flicking and bubbling are most likely baby, it’s very hard to be sure in the early days! They are still so small, and depending on their position you can feel them a little bit or not feel anything at all. It will definitely become more obvious, and you will definitely know - but as said it might take a couple of weeks because of the placenta position.
Yep like the others said it will become more obvious. I was around 20 weeks when I first started to notice flutters, but they get stronger and stronger until you just know it’s the baby. I remember being like you and feeling very anxious about it, especially when people asked me if I’ve felt the baby move yet. I promise in a few weeks you will know for sure it’s the baby.
Another thing you can do is book a private scan, and you can see the baby move. That’s quite bonkers, especially when you haven’t felt obvious kicks yet. It might even help you understand the feeling of a kick when you can see the baby kicking on screen at the same time. X
Thanks for coming back I have a midwife appt next week so will be reassured to hear the heartbeat again then. I think we will go for a 3D scan in a few weeks too so will defo be trying to link the feelings and the kicks on screen x
they sound like kicks to me! I also have an anterior and the first things I felt were like bubbles. I’m 27 weeks now and there’s more of a pattern, regularity to the kicks. Not long for you to wait until you can definitely feel them and they’ll be waking you at night 🥰
I had an anterior placenta with my baby and I wasn’t sure whether the flicks and flutters were movements or not. I started to have proper movements at around week 23/24. I was told by my doctor that this wasn’t unusual given it was my first baby. Also I didn’t have a pattern of movements throughout my pregnancy. Some days he was more active than others. This made me anxious during the pregnancy but he was fine and is now a lively six month old. I wish you the very best of luck with your pregnancy. X
I had an anterior placenta too, it drove me crazy not knowing whether it was kicks or not….but just to say when you feel the first proper one it is just magical 💕💕💕💕
I had an anterior placenta too. It was about 24 weeks I think before I felt a real kick - but looking back the bubbling sensation I’d been feeling was definitely him! Like someone else has said, it builds up very subtly. It’s an amazing feeling when it finally comes though 🥰
