19 weeks - pain around lower bump

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help. I've had a cough and cold the last few days and it seems to have brought with it some really uncomfortable pain round the lower part of my bump. It seems to get worse in the evening and sort of makes me feel like I want to hunch over when I walk around. It isn't like severe cramps, just feels more like a tugging or pulling pain, both sides and sort of near my bladder. I haven't been very active over the last few days as I've been ill. Do you think this is just round ligament pain or should I be worried? I've got my 20w scan on Friday so just want to get to that. Thanks as always.

I would imagine it’s ligament pain or muscles. I get a sharp pain sometimes if I move a bit quick or sneeze, that the midwife says is ligaments if that helps? Sounds like it’s the same sort of thing in same area.

I would imagine all the coughing would pull something but you could always call your midwives to check?

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Thank you! Does your pain stay for long? Mine seems to come and go but the last few nights has been pretty consistent in the evenings. I'll call the midwives tomorrow to see what they say.

the pain from ligaments is just a quick sharp pain that goes after a few seconds.

I imagine if yours hangs about it’s muscular from the coughing though. Midwives will know though. They are pretty good at saying when to panic!

Hi buttercup I have had a few coughs during my pregnancy and it has caused pain in my lower tummy every time. I spoke to my midwife about it and she that because our muscles are stretching it makes them more sensitive and prone to pain from coughing, sneezing or moving to quick. If you are worried at all just call your midwife center for advice in my experience they are always happy to give advice x

Hi ButtercupGarden. The cough is probably just straining your round ligaments and muscles? Your midwife will keep an eye on you and hopefully all will soon settle again. Diane

Thanks Diane, in the end I went to the day assessment unit and got checked out. The conclusion was that it is just ligament pain as baby is having a growth spurt. It seems to be decreasing as the cough and cold has gone away which is a relief!
