I was diagnosed with mild polyhydramnios at a growth scan at 29 weeks yesterday. Trying not to let it worry me but would appreciate any experiences anyone can share with this? I make very large babies (I think poly is more common with big babies) my 2 year old son is on the 99th centile and this baby is measuring on the 91st with abdomen on the 97th. My GTT was negative and very low but they’ve referred me back to the diabetes team again so will find out if they want to test me again or not. You just always want to be told everything looks normal and after so much fertility treatment you get a distorted view of risk I think always expecting to be in that rare minority group 😕

experiences with polyhydramnios
Hi lovely, I also had polyhydraminos, caught on a growth scan at about 34 weeks. Baby wasn't measuring that big and was also neg on the gestational diabetes test. Ended up being induced at 38 weeks and baby was born at 8lb 6. Now 2yr 8months and 98th centile, absolute whopper 😂
yes!! My son was 8lb5 but 60cm at birth and now is on the 99th!! I’m hoping his brother is just the same and there is nothing to worry about. Sending solidarity for our back with our giant children!
😂 my back has actually been wrecked since I had him! Doesn't help that he still needs rocking to sleep most of the time. Have they given you an indication of whether they're looking to induce you early?
I’m having a planned section anyway after my very traumatic birth last time so won’t be later than 39+2 anyway (Saturday due date pushing it out those 2 days), although my son came earlier than that. I see the obstetrician on Tuesday I’m going to ask them then. It’s entirely possible I had the same with my first just never knew because it was never picked up he was so big so no growth scans because my hospital then redated IVF babies at the 12 week scan so they always had me as further along than I actually was whereas this time sensibly they didn’t change it so it’s more obvious how far ahead I measure.
I was diagnosed with that around the same time. They repeated my glucose test (which was fine) and just put me on regular scans to monitor. It had pretty much self corrected by my last scan. My son was 9lb 12 so it was just due to him being a big baby for us! I remember getting in a bit of a flap about it but my OB reassured me lots that it’s usually nothing to worry about xx
Thanks for sharing this makes me feel better. I’m certain my GTT will be normal again because my midwife said my body barely even registered the glucose last time so I’m nowhere even close to having diabetes. I’m pretty sure it’s just going to be a big baby thing like to was for you but they didn’t tell me anything at the scan other than that I had polyhydramnios so I felt a bit abandoned with no information and Google is never your friend!!
Hi there, I’m measuring big at 28 weeks and have my fluid scan on Monday. Fully expecting it to be on the higher side as this is very common. All of us ladies come in different shapes and sizes as do babies & bumps so I’m not going to let it worry me too much. My husband was a huge baby so I’m guessing that’s probably where we are headed. 🙃 Hopefully not too huge but we will absolutely go with it.x Nice to read lots of people in similar situations here, reassuring.x
Hi
I had mild polyhydramnios picked up on my last scan - think I must have been about 35 weeks. They also said baby was measuring large and I needed another scan to check in a week. Was also referred for diabetes tests again but all came back fine. My waters broke at 36+2 (think pre-prom can be a result of excess fluid). I went into labour a couple of days later and my son was born at 36+5. Technically premature and they had to do some extra tests before we were discharged but he was completely healthy and just under 7 pounds (3.025kg) so not huge but decent for his gestation. So in my case although it resulted in a premature labour everything was fine. I hope your last few weeks of your labour are as stress free as possible. Sending you lots of good vibes xx
Hi lovely. Oh no: so sorry this is stressing you out. So awful to have another thing to worry about.
I've not had this experience, but my consultant did say to me once when I was fretting that these days any potential problem gets picked up so early and monitored so carefully that you're in very safe hands, whatever the circumstance. Your team will be keeping a close eye on you and your baby and making sure you're well. Hugs xxxx
