Should I be having a 28 week scan?

Evening lovelies,

Hope everyone’s feeling good today. I was just wondering if I’m supposed to be expecting a 28 week scan? No one has mentioned one to me. I do have a midwife appointment along with the diabetes check in a couple of weeks but that’s all at the mo.

Does everyone have one after having gone through IVF?

I think it's just 12 and 20 weeks. We only had extra as we needed growth scans x

Not heard of 28 week scans being offered as standard and didn't have one with my daughter- additional scans are just if there are any concerns. I'll be having a 32 week scan this time around due to a low lying placenta seen at the 20 week scan; if there are any blips detected in growth at midwife appointments they get you in for a scan pretty sharpish, but pretty sure the standard are just 12 and 20 week ones. I imagine most of us end up havIng (far too many) private scans along the way for a bit of reassurance too though! x

I have a 24 week and and a 27 week scan scheduled. This could also be because i have a high risk of preeclampsia. But you can surely check with the midwife for it. In my case I also have a high risk OBGYN I meet with. She mentioned I would have more scans after the 24 weeks and more consultations. It could be depending on each case for the doctors, but you can ask them if you think you would like to see them more often.

hi!

I only had my 20 week scan and will have next scan at 32 and 36 weeks.. I have midwife appointments every 3 weeks where she usually listens to the baby's heartbeat...

I find it reassuring to feel the little one moving around xx

Scans are only 12 and 20 weeks unless your midwife has concerns or you’re classed as high risk. This is a list of all the standard NHS antenatal apps: nhs.uk/pregnancy/your-pregn...

You can of course get a private scan at anytime during your pregnancy if you want some extra reassurance but hopefully baby will be moving lots by then, that normally helps ease the anxiety a bit xxx

Ok fab - thank you all! I think I am high risk as IVF and 39 years old but I won’t push for one then. Baby is moving lots so that is so reassuring. Thank you lovelies xxxx

Hi! Those factors were not considered high risk for me and if they haven’t talked about your pregnancy as high risk up until now, you’ll have the standard scans. I did have additional scans privately for reassurance (after travelling/ when I had covid…). All the best!

This was for a non IVF pregnancy - my hospital offered a 36 week scan...

It sometimes depends on the hospital I think....

Hi there, where I live 28 week scans are consultant/ midwife led for various reasons but not routine. With diabetes or recurrent miscarriage it’s usually a growth scan at 30 and then 36 weeks. I’m fairly sure this protocol changes between NHS trusts.x If in doubt, give your midwife a ring as they will have a list of protocols for your area.x Glad you are getting lots of kicks.x

Usually there is a midwife appointment at 28 weeks but the only scans are 12 and 20 unless they have to check on baby’s growth. I think a lot of people find it a very long time to go without a scan from 20 weeks until baby is born so pay for an extra one privately but if baby is moving regularly there isn’t any need to worry xx
