Hi everyone, just wanted to see what others think of baby kicks/movements.
I'm 28 weeks today and haven't really noticed a big change in baby kicking since he started kicking. I dont get much at all during the day, at night time he is usually more active and lively so i get reassured from that after a worrying long day. Most people say their baby is kicking non stop around the third trimester so it does worry me. It says around 10 kicks an hour online? I'm not near that during the day. Should i be concerned? Spoken to the midwife who isnt overly concerned. But I've been worried about him kicking since around 18 weeks so its hard. I'm sitting at a desk all day so should feel him more? X

I was exactly the same as you. Whilst being busy at work during the day (I was sat at a desk all day also) and if I was busy out walking etc on the weekends then I wouldn’t really notice the kicks until probably 30+ weeks. It was usually around 7.30 and 10.30 at night that I would get a regular spout of kicks. I found out later that I had a front facing placenta and apparently kicks are less apparent with this.
If I didn’t feel it and get concerned, I’d get some ice cold water to drink and lie on my back - this worked 90% of the time to bring on a kick .
My midwife was so good and always said just to call the triage line if I was ever worried, and I could come in and they’d get the heart beat Doppler on my stomach. They’d rather you do that than sit at home worried xx
hello! It’s one worry after another isn’t it ?!? Is your placenta at the front or back ? X
Yes I had the same as you. My baby boy didn’t move much in the day seemed to start at midnight onwards when I was about to go to sleep. Typical! Lol 😂
As long as you me feeling him then don’t panic he’s prob just sleeping in the day. If your worried drink a decent amount of water and after about 10-15 give your belly a little shake and it should move him for reassurance.
So with my first, he barely kicked, but he was consistent throughout. This time around, baby is doing football training in the morning, tea time and bed time, he is non stop and proper boots me. I couldn't really tell where babe number 1 was, with this one I can literally see where he is and feel his back. Two completely different kiddos in the womb! As long as babe is moving to his regular pattern that's all that matters 💙
I was the same until the last week or so! I'd feel them at night, just sitting up in bed, but very rarely during the day. I'd sometimes get anxious and just poke my belly in the evening to see what happened. Now I'm feeling a LOT more (30+1 today) and part of that is because one twin is just draped across the top of the bump. The lower twin is less noticeable (although is breech so that IS uncomfortable when there are kicks and stretches!!!).
I think just notice the pattern and know that you'll get some kicking in the evening ☺️ I looked forward to it because it was uninterrupted vs it happening in a busy day. Every baby is different though and it might change soon! Xx
I had barely any movement for my last pregnancy it was so hard - the placenta was up front and low lying so there was a reason.
I was forever calling the hospital for them to check for movement and reassure me.
Can def relate to this post.
One good thing - the hospital never made me feel bad for double checking and always did some quick examinations to make sure.
Hi I’m 29w3days and feel exactly the same as you. Some days are very reassuring and some just very slow movements it’s such a worry especially when my husband says has the baby been moving a lot as they are supposed to at this stage which adds to the worry even more.
The important thing is to establish what is normal for you (I know that’s easier said then done) and try not to compare yourself to those that feel their baby move all the time. Although any concerns do call the day assessment unit and get checked out - it doesn’t matter how many times you go in.
My baby didn’t move much, even at night - though that is when I would at least feel something! This didn’t change up until the day he was born. I had a high posterior placenta so no particular reason why. He is now one week old and is just a pretty chill baby. They are all just so different. Doesn’t stop you worrying though and I did end up taking myself to the day assessment unit a few times throughout the pregnancy x
Oh my days, I stressed out about this so much.🤦🏼♀️ I didnt get much movement at all, I could feel the odd bit of movement here any there and i was worried. The local midwives were great, ili got checked a few extra times due to this and nobody made me feel silly....i would recommemd contacting your midwife if youre worried.xxx
Thank you so much for your reassuring comments everyone. Really means alot and helps. I get worried so often, guess i still think its too good to be true that I'm actually pregnant. Having a good day today as he's being active ❤️💫 hes inconsistent which makes judging his movements so hard. Maybe in a few more weeks he'll have more of a routine xxxx
Hello lovely. I also tend to get obsessed over kicking and worry if she doesn't kick for a little while. Even though she's very active in the evenings, sometimes in the day she just seems to randomly go quiet for a while and I hate it!
I do think it's normal for them to be a little inconsistent. If you're worried at any point, you can drink a cold drink and lie on your side to see if that gets him moving. Otherwise, I recently spoke to my hospital and they said they'd never be annoyed if I phoned/came in for a doppler check—they said they'd always prefer I just got a check if I was concerned.
