Work and time off

hi,

i had a meeting at work last Friday about my absences as I’ve been off quite a lot due to IVF/appointments ect. I explained to the deputy manager why I was off, e.g day after egg collection, day off after scratch and things and then told them I was pregnant and have had a few symptoms that have caused me to have a few days off. I got a letter from HR saying no further action would be taken. Ive had yesterday and today off due to morning sickness and now HR have set up another meeting. Im now really worried!! Any advice? There’s not much I can do about morning sickness but I was going to ask if I could come in later in the morning after it’s got better. Im just worried im going to have formal action taken due to my time off.

Hiya, i’m actually a HR manager. What does your maternity policy say about her pregnancy related sickness? I would advise having a read of it and discussing the policy with HR.

generally they can't include pregnancy related sickness as part of your sickness record. I had 5 months off x

Hi hun, sorry to hear as it sounds like unnecessary stress for you. They might just want to meet to do a risk assessment as you told them you are pregnant. Did they say what the next meeting is about? They should really.

Also indeed the moment they place an embryo back you are technically pregnant and as far as I know they cannot penalise you for pregnancy related sickness, no matter how often or how long it lasts. Which should be protected by law so shouldn’t matter on your work policy at all! If they do make an problem of it you can easily take legal actions against them as you are ‘protected’ being pregnant.

I hope it is just to chat through what works best for you and work and find a solution for the next few weeks!

You could speak to ACAS and/or Pregnant Then Screwed if you’re worried to find out your rights, especially if they do want to take any action (which I’m sure they won’t). They may just want to find out what they can do to support you xx
