Thank you for this amazing community!

Does anyone know about Milk thistle (Silybum marianum)? I read that is often suggested as a treatment for NASH and liver fibrosis.

My Liver Specialist said there's no proof it works but it won't hurt me to take it.

I take it every day. Only holistic doctors and doctors that are board certified in nutrition know how good it is for your liver.

I took it for a while, didn't notice a difference in the way I felt nor did my bloods change. My hepatologist says there's no real evidence that it works, but it won't harm you if you do want to take it.

The only supplement that's worked for me is 800IU vitamin E daily in two 400IU doses. It's given me more energy and my enzymes are down.

I've taken it for side pain, it helps minimize the pain. I'd rather take this as apposed to taking ibuprofen or other pain meds.

My doctor advised me to take milk thistle. I didn’t Google what it does. But I have been taking it.

Milk thistle is effective as a treatment for poisoning from death cap mushrooms if taken soon after ingesting the poisonous mushrooms. Those mushrooms can otherwise cause serious acute liver injury/failure. Milk thistle can counteract the poison in those mushrooms.

There is zero evidence that milk thistle does anything for chronic liver disease, and anyone taking it is likely placing an additional burden on their liver by making it process that supplement and any additives that are included with it. Dietary supplements are basically unregulated and many can be harmful to the liver.

Not sure your location, but I did read there was a recall in the U.S. for mushrooms recently.

My doctor says "if you want to waste money, you can take it". He says there isn't proof positive it is good for you, but neither is there evidence that, taken in the recommended doses, it is bad for you.

I take Milk Thistle, vitamin E, vitamin C, and zinc. I still have a fatty liver but my numbers came down quite a bit. I was drinking 10 drinks a night, and the numbers still came down. A lot.

May I ask, what time frame did this work for you and what do you consider " a lot". I ask for I am not getting results from changing diet and walking. After reading your success I will start taking the same vitamins and Milk Thistle. Thanks for sharing.

I am following a kind of mediterranean diet and walking, exercise; I lost 40 pounds and all the parameters improved distinctively!

This is what a recommend to everybody , this is the real “ detox”.

I was asking about the milk Thistle because i found a lot of polemic about it.

This community is a blessing and I do thank you so much
