Anyone have any idea on how to get insurance to cover an MRE scan on the liver? The network providers only have FIbroscan and I have a high BMI.

In my case my primary doctor requested it from an out of network imaging center after they got approval from my insurance. What did your PCP say?
I think you can go direct to the insurance company through an appeal. Otherwise, see if a different PCP is better for your needs. Good luck!
Fibroscan (along w/bloodwork) could be sufficient in helping draw your baseline.
I could be wrong here, but in this scenario, MRE's might only be ordered by a hepatologist or maybe a GI. (Depending on availability)
Interesting that MRE is not available throughout your network. My hepatologist is in network but not affiliated w/ my PCP and GI's medical system. I have to travel an hour to see my hepatologist/ MRE.
Try not to stress too much until you know what your really up against. Hope you can find answers soon. 🙏🏾
I called my insurance directly, first to find out that my new hepatologist from Cleveland Clinic was in network. And then I called to find out if the facility performing the MRE was in network and then if the MRE itself was covered. Fortunately, it all was. I would start by calling your insurance provider.
I was able to obtain mine through a Gastro sending the request.
