Im nervous and a bit scared. I had an ultrasound of right upper quadrant and an ultrasound with elastrography. I have NASH and PBC an autoimmune of the livers bile duct. The regular ultrasound says

Study Result

Impression

1. Cirrhotic liver. No suspicious masses identified

2. No significant change in mildly enlarged ports hepatic lymph node.

3. Status post cholecystectomy.

My US with elastrography

Study Result

Impression

Metavir score F0-F1, Absent or Mild Fibrosis

Liver steatosis grading S2 increased compared to prior.

How can one say mild fibrosis and the other cirrhotic liver? I am stressing as I get near my appointment.

Any thoughts?

Hi Joe lover

Those are two quite different tests. The regular ultrasound is interpreted visually by a radiologist and is quite poor at identifying anything but liver cancer. The elastography ultrasound actually does a measurement of the stiffness of your liver and is a far better test.

My advice, take a deep breath and relax a bit until you can see your doc. You are dealing with a serious situation but there is no evidence in those tests that it is advanced so you probably have some options to work out with your medical team.

Good luck

Wayne

Wayne, I must say I appreciate all you do for us here and the webinars you participate in. Your November one was very informative. Everyone had a great presentation. I’ve been having both types of ultrasounds since diagnosed in early 2020 for six months and hepatologist said I have the autoimmune under control and I’m responding to Ursodoil. ALP normal. I went from F2 and some F 3 in May 2020 to F0-F1 one year later. Doctor said I could reverse it and I’m trying. Lost almost 40 pounds and made other lifestyle changes. I am symptom free of both liver diseases and this was found from routine bloodwork. This last US just threw me. All other reports except the first have been better and better. Thanks for your reply I value your thoughts on this.
