I know this is a super antioxidant created in the liver. Am taking 700 mg liposomal glutathione and feel better. Have had fatty liver for years. It has progressed.

Glutathione is a key chemical used by the body. One important role of glutathione is within the liver to irreversibly bind to reactive intermediates (such as from drug metabolism) in the the body, which are then cleared by the liver. One such reactive intermediate comes from paracetamol metabolism; someone taking paracetamol for a few days will almost certainly have a deficiency in glutathione.

This is an irreversible reaction and therefore consumes 1 molecule of glutathione for every molecule of reactive intermediate. Without glutathione, these reactive intermediates instead react with and destroy cells, often in the liver.

Thus maintaining a good level of glutathione in the liver is crucial to preventing one type of liver cell damage.

There is a view in the scientific literature that NAFLD has associations with glutathione deficiency. But it seems to me, that NAFLD is a downstream symptom of many different upstream causes, so I doubt there is a single magic bullet that works for all.

I 'dabbled' with one particular nutraceutical glutathione raising regime that was being trialed in humans in 2019, sadly however this was inconclusive for me, and actually seemed to raise my GGT. It was an extreme protocol involving N-acetyl Cysteine (though I think it was L-Serine that raised my GGT), which made my head feel weird, so in hindsight, I should probably have tried an over the counter supplement instead, but I was feeling a bit desperate.

Thank you. I also started taking alpha lipoid acid which is a precursor to glutathione. I do not drink, but sugar has been my downfall. I rarely take meds other than gabapentin for neuropathy. Have been told the NAC should be taken with any anti-inflammatory. Am stage 3-4 and the doc said, “We will treat it like cirrhosis.” That means getting a sonogram every 6 months to make sure there is no cancer. There is no test in my town other than the MRI to measure the damage. Since Covid, I have been limited on exercise since the gyms here are shut down. Will need to figure out that part. Again, thank you.
