I saw a new doctor yesterday and is prescribing D2 vitamins. Do any of you take vitamin D2 for fatty liver?

It's not for a fatty liver, he just thought your levels should be higher. Many have low vitamin D.

Is that a bad thing?

Absolutely. It is 20.9. Will start talking vitamin D2 tomorrow. I started Milkthistle today. Do you do Milkthistle?

I wouldn't be taking milk thistle, most docs tell you not to take milk thistle,,save your money. Milk thistle isn't controlled by FDA, why would you take something with a struggling liver that your liver has to process. Just eat clean ad exercise.

Wow. I have seen where others take so being a sheeple I am following suit. I guess i am trying to hurry up the process, but this is more of a marathon. Thanks I will certainly stop. Good advice.

Yes, I take D and E. It most certainly is beneficial for the inhibition of fat accumulation in the liver. Further, I was instructed to STOP taking all other non-life essential

vitamins and vitamins while i get my liver back in order from NASH. It's less for your liver to metabolize and will help it get a much needed rest.

Thank you for your response. Do you take regular Vitamin D OTC or is it prescription. If OTC what dosage?

Ask your doctor how much he or she wants you to take, do not take other vitamins that others are taking, people have different causes to why their liver is comprised. You can just take OTC vitamin D3 but ask your doc how many mg. Is what a bad thing?

Thank you for your response. She did run blood work to see if my vitamin D levels were low. I guess they were because my pharmacy contacted me about picking my D2. I guess my question was is it a bad thing to have low levels of Vitamin D.

I would think it worth asking what your actual level was, so you know a baseline before you begin to supplement. Interesting that you mention D2, as most supplement D3 which is generally thought to raise blood levels better. Ideally if you are taking higher doses you should be taking co-factors (Vit K2 and magnesium). Yes, vitamin D is important and being too low is far from ideal. Best wishes

Awe. Thank you. I did look at articles on D2 and was wondering why D2 and not D3. I will ask.

You're welcome. I should also have said that too high isn't good either - more is not necessarily better, especially with the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). Not that we want to get sidetracked into a Covid discussion but Vit D has been regularly suggested since March by quite a lot of practitioners and some doctors as the most useful single thing that you can do to help yourself (as in, check level and supplement if low, if you can tolerate - some can't) x

d2 is mostly plant base and d3 is fat base (meat)...my doc prefer a plant base vitamin, so do I.

Level is 20.9

Hi, as you are in US I guess that is 20.9 ng/ml? General suggestion seems to be aim for in the region of 40-60 ng/ml (100 - 150 nmol/L). I did manage to get mine to 150 (60ng/nl) but currently at 113 (45.2) and it has taken a while. I use a D3 in olive oil that is corn free (as cannot tolerate), so D2 would have been no good for me. Hope you soon start to feel a bit better.

Hi,

I do because it was low but I take vitamin E for my fatty liver. Getting in exercise is the hardest thing for me.

Thank you for your reply. I will start mine (D2) on Monday. I too have a difficult time getting in exercise. I guess my problem here stems from all the changes I’ve had to make I just am not motivated. I know it would help.
